Hello my friends!
Here is a 300 mm equiv. close-up of typical Balkan sheep. As much as Greece is famous with it's traditional goat cheese feta, that much neighboring Bulgaria is famous with sheep cheese - the white is called sirene and the yellow is called kashkaval. Sirene means "curdled" and kashkaval means "kneaded milk pulp". (I've heard Italians have a similar cheese name caciocavalli)

Local people breed sheep for milking, wool and meat. They (I mean shhep, not local people, hehe;-) live almost wild, being collected only for the night. In the morning they are milked and let freely. Living in the wilderness most of the time, their wool is relatively coarse and has to be mixed with other brands when utilized. A Bulgarian sheep yields 1 to 2 litеrs of milk daily but it's much richer in proteins and fats than cow's milk. Sheep milk is said to be one of the few truly organic foods.

As you see in the photo, these sheep have found a place free from snow among the bushes and have their midday rest near the mountain village of Plana (see my previous photo)

Thanks for seeng!

Hello Anton,
This is an interesting fellow, definitely with a personality and giving a fine pose!
I like the low point of view, making the animal look big and important...
A nice composition and some interesting information about Bulgarian sheep breeding!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Bonjour Edal
A fine portrait of the sheep which seems to be posing for you ;) I like the textured woollen hair and the leafless trees providing a nice graphical BG. Also, thanks for the informative note!

Hi Anton. I like this winter scene with a very warm looking slightly feral sheep. It has the right clothes for the conditions for sure. Excellent notes. TFS. Murray.

Hi Anton!
Really nice sheep you have here (here they can never have so much wool, mainly in south because of the heat). The expression is very good and I like the branches in background. A very nice photo!
