Photographer’s Note

The most photographed building in Bulgaria is the Alexander Nevski Cathedral. This was taken in 1995, on a showery spring afternoon. Other photos of this, all taken in 2005 from a similar perspective, can be seen here , here , here and here . It looks like the golden domes have been renovated since I was there. Does gold rust? Anyway, this was an attempt on my part to colour my map more orange, I do not think my version is better than others. I will add a view of the Sofia skyline to WS. The following factual info on the building is copied from Brigitte(bibiweb)'s photo:

The impressive Alexander Nevski Cathedral with its multiple gold covered domes is probably the most photographed landmark in Sofia. This church was built between 1882 and 1912 to honour the Russian soldiers who died in combat during the war that liberated Bulgaria from the Ottoman Empire en 1878. Alexander Nevski, a hero from the 13th century was the patron saint of the tsar family at that time, Alexander II.
