This is the Church of St Demetrius of Thessaloniki (Tsarkva Sveti Dimitar Solunski) in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria. Originally going back to at least the 12th century the church has been destroyed, rebuilt and renovated several times. In its present shape it is only about 30 years old. Just a few frescoes remain from the original church.
With this photo I would like to wish all members of TE a happy and successful 2012.

Yes, it does look as good as new! But, then, I suppose it is, from what you say in your interesting note.
And your picture shows this little church off very well indeed. The composition is excellent, strongly enhanced by the two onlookers who share our view. Excellent colours, perfect exposure and very fine sharpness.
Kind Regards and Very Best Wishes for the New Year,

So it is as old as our castle in Warsaw. The architecture of it reminds me the churches of Romania. Looks very nice, and the young couple like it also. very nice composition, good colours. I also wish you and your family happy and healthy 2012.
P.S. I noticed that in your very long list of photographed countries there is no Norway (and Poland).

The two tourists are looking along a diagonal line, down to this interesting church. The proportions are puzzling me, the church looks quite small, like a model. Maybe the onlookers are standing far away from the building. Still, a well composed picture with pleasant colours.

first of all, I like the inclusion of people in the foreground: this adds a sense of depth to the picture and a bit of "life" (if I may say so) :) But I also like the inclusion (whether you did it on purpose or not) the tree branch on the right: is serves as a "counter"-balance to the relatively "heavy" building on the left. Very nice!
och Gott Nytt År! :)

This 'new' church is incredibly ornate. Good compo and I am pleased with sharpness and placement of vital focal of interests. The lines and shapes are quite as spectacular in design in subtle light and colors and benefits much from the excellent detail. Fine contrast as well. You've captured the magnificent of this beautiful architecture so well in this shot. Fine piece of work. Congrats
Hope 2012 is a great year for you.

It is now 8 o’clock in the morning here, good morning. Before starting to write on the subject, I would like to wish you a very Happy New Year 2012.
How interesting to read your note revealing a short history of this church. This is an old church, but the recreated church it self is only 30 years old. I see two sets of dialogs in this photo, one dialog between a couple and this new old church. And another dialog in between the couple themselves. The quality of the image in my humble opinion is excellent. I agree 100% with what you have written in your introduction. On many occasions a large camera could only get in your way. And being able to have the camera at all times is very basic to being a photographer. We never know when and where we might encounter a desired subject, No matter how good the camera is, if the camera is too large and too heavy that fact prevents one from having it at all times, the game can be over even before one even starts thinking of taking a photo. Having said this, I'll pick up where I left off. The dialogs mentioned above interest me very much. The depicted dialogs in your photo are the two visible dialogs, but there is a third one, which is hidden in this photo. It is your presence with your interests. The presence of the three dialogs in one photo is what makes this image an intriguing one. And I look at your photo with a great interest. The existence of the triangular relationship, both visible and invisible is what makes this photo speak to us all. I like the photo very much.
With my very best and warm regards, I wish you a very Happy New Year once again,
Have a very productive year 2012, Gert-san,

Bom dia gert

You're capturing well this old church renovated newly by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's impressive to see the medieval church with red roof and unique shape. It's interesting in a front rampart, too. And, the greenery in behind draws out an additional good atmosphere in this image.
Angshu (56738) 2012-01-06 7:31
It does appear new! But the structure is typical of this part of Europe. Nice high & distant POV with the church surrounded by foliage. The entry door seems to be closed which means no access to the compound. Well done!
Kielia (24077) 2012-01-08 8:26
your POV on this idyllic church works excellently. A nicely composed and very pleasant impression, very good management of the light and a charming perspective. My compliments also for the title!

It is sad when people destroy beautiful buildings like this church but I'm glad they keep renovating it. Good pov and dof with sharp details. Good lighting and wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.

Lovely architecture and good pov, the shot is well balanced with these people on the right side, good light capture.

Hello Gert !
That beautiful church is well captured, and it was a good idea to add both of these people in your photos' first plan, they give the scale. Colors and light are great too ! Nevertheless, I just regret a little lack of sharpness at the right edge.
Have a nice evening !

a very good and effective composition offers us a great sweeping view of the old/new church and allows us to share our wonder with the couple placed wisely at the lower right corner. I love the strong light and the way you've managed the contrast capturing delightful colours and atmsphere as well as highlighting superbly the details on the stone surfaces and the foliage. The point of view is quite comprehensive and shows how well the church is integrated in its surroundings. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,
