Yes, this is Capital Hill, not Capitol Hill. The title is correctly spelled :-)
This is the Tsarevets hill, site of the Bulgarian royal palace when Tarnovo (today Veliko Tarnovo) was the capital of Bulgaria from 1185 to 1393. Most of the palaces and churches that were situated here were destroyed when the Ottoman Turks conquered the area in 1393. During the 20th century Soviet archaeologists helped the Bulgarians to excavate and partly restore the hill, which is now one of the country's most popular tourist destinations.

I remember the times, when Bulgaria was just like a 16th Soviet republic. Good presentation of the historical place of Bulgaria. I never knew this fact.
Marry Christmas to you!

i've always tried to not include roadsigns or related in my pictures, sometimes it is inevitable, but in this case it's that something more, almost the icing on the cake. The old Bulgarian capital, one of the wonders of this country, is well summed up in its access ramp, regal and majestic. The PP work is rather emphasized, but the effect you got is however pleasant.

that's a fantastic town and a wonderful view.
You can really see that it must have beel a great place to defend with the ramparts and the steep rocks at the entrance.

I'd never imagine Bulgaria has such interesting sights!
I like the composition which forms sort of a triangle, with a funny eye-catcher - the triangular road sign (a reminder of modern civilization!) ;-)
this is curious but the road sign helps to balance the composition very well and, at the same time, adds a nice "red element" to the green-yellowish sunlit landscape :)
ha en trevlig kväll!

A very interesting cityscape with this old wall that seems to be well preserved. The traffic sign it a bit of a mystery, we can´t see the road in this picture. Was there really a slippery road here? Whatever, the sign adds a nice touch of red to brighten up the picture.
Hälsningar och God Jul

This is indeed like a postcard but by that I don't mean to belittle your fine photograph. It has immediate appeal and shows an interesting and attractive set of buildings. Your note is also very interesting and informative.
Excellent composition, the tall tower being nicely balanced by the lion and shield at the entrance to the raised driveway to the palace and that drive and its walls provide a strong lead into the picture. Lots of interesting details abound in the picture and the colours, exposure and sharpness are excellent. The addition of the three visitors in the arched entrance add to the appeal.

Ciao dear Gert,
beautiful and interesting picture of this hill enriched by the the walls and the church on the top. The photo quality is perfect, from the lion in the FG to the tip of the bell tower. Excellent also the choice of the POV. Very good shot, my friend, congratulations!

this is a nicely balanced composition. The lion and the tower are perfectly placed. The road leading to the archway and the tiny figures passing through are a good detail.Lovelly warm light too.

an interesting old defensive walls and church on the top of hill. Lion is here, too (theme from my last added photo). Good informations in note and photowork.
Have a nice day.

I'm really enjoying your series from Bulgaria...a country that we don't see much of here on TE, and to be honest, a country that seems to be lost/forgotten in terms of tourists.
Every photo you show us from Bulgaria is educational for me. Great info written in the note below, and a fine photo that shows us the Hill you mentioned.
rodgerg (55767) 2011-12-23 2:02
A very well balanced postacra with the statue well off-centred on the right nad the stone's abrrier which learn the glance to the hill and the castle with the details of this architectur well collected. Excellent idea of the important dimensions of these impressive ramparts.
Merry Christmas Gert,

Hello Gert. On this beautiful city, I remember very well. I went over the bridge. Unfortunately I have when leaving the bus crushed a finger. The title pleases me well, because it's true. Overall a great photo. Well worth seeing. Rgds, Wolfgang.
... and Merry Christmas.

You have really found an excellent perspective for this shot. Even if it might be the classic view of it. I am sure that your photo is far better than most. I am not too fond of the road sign, but if could have been worse no it does not look too bad. Itactually bring some strong colour to the scene. I seems like your brother sort of is of the same view. TFS. Jag önskar dig en Riktigt God Jul!
emka (75107) 2011-12-23 23:12
The photo has an ancient look, like from your archive.Breautiful view from Trnovo. I was there in 1975. It was so long time ago, in quite different tome.
Merry Christmas to you and your family

A wonderful historical sight taken in bright sunshine. Love your description, the colour, clarity and angle in this are super and you just keep staring at it going from detail to detail and marvelling at that blue sky. That speck of red in the distant is nice a touch, its makes alot of difference. Great capture
Best wishes to you and your loved ones - Happy Christmas
Angshu (55035) 2011-12-31 8:29
A fine picture, a postcard alright with the details all across the frame. The perspective of the bridge is well defined leading us into the palace The Royal insignia on the right, held up by the lion. The church dominates the frame high up on the hill. A fine shot in good light!
I wish you & your dear ones the very best for 2012...may the year bring you happiness, good health & prosperity

I have probably already mentioned that I come from town in Poland called Tarnow so photos from Tarnovo in Bulgaria are of double interest to me :)
It seems like a lovely town full of interesting architecture and places to have a pleasant walk.
Thanks for sharing it is a wonderful reportage as usually,
Have a Happy New Year!

Very nicely captured and composed shot from a very good POV.
Kielia (23013) 2012-02-07 7:10
a very original and fascinating POV on one of the lesser seen places here. The photographer’s perspective is excellent. Concerning the road sign I agree to Allessio! My compliments!
kato (11630) 2012-05-06 12:23
You're capturing well this ruins by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the previous capital standing on the hill with church and palace. It's impressive in a front stone bridge, surrounding greenery and a long wall like a rampart, too. And, the statue on bridge draws out an additional good effect.
Have a nice day.
ourania (28368) 2013-03-25 6:24
I thought I would write to you about the little girl's portrait today, that I liked her pose and glance showing innocence, pride and shyness. The colours and atmosphere were lovely too.
This is a very comprehensive and interesting picture showing an impressive historical site. Depth and perspective are sweeping and effective, clarity is wonderful and the colours look very rich and lovely under the strong light. You've managed the contrast superbly. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,
