Day III - 9:48 am

It was the beginning of the walk. In a village, one hour away from Kardzhali.

And I was thinking at Tintin...
And the images of the "King Ottokar's Sceptre" were coming to my mind...

And I was there, Deep in Syldavia...

Hello Stepan,
When I read the title of this photo immediately Tintin's books came into my mind, I remember this book so well. Tintin's books were one of my favourites BD's and I still have the whole collection. Now I see this and I remember the adventures of this famous reporter across the world.
About the photo, this stil reminds me a bit of what we could see on the book with these typical houses, I just miss the the guards and the men with the red, rounad hats:)
Thanks for this one and for reminding me about one of my youth's heroes.

si tu aimes Tintin, je t'invite à venir faire un tour à Nyon, j'habite juste en face de la maison du professeur Topolino dans "l'affaire Tournesol" (http://e.tintin.tk.free.fr/lieux.htm). :)
J'aime cette vieille façade, ces murs décrépis, ces fenêtres qui tombent en ruines...
Pourtant ça semble encore habité avec les personnages devant.

ah dis donc on se sent propulse ailleurs, dans une autre epoque. J'aime beaucoup cette maison dans les roses sous ce ciel si sombre. Quelle atmosphere!

Fading and peeling paintwork and dilapidation make for such attractive photographic effects, Stephene. Even the people look, sort of, faded and down-at-heal. It gives you such good atmosphere and gentle mottled colours. Yes, I would not be surprised to see Snowy scampering across the foreground. Regards Kevin

Je ne peux pas être sure de ça, mais il me parait que la netteté et exposition imparfaites sont intentionnelles, non? Je pense que ça plus la luminosité d'orage vont très bien avec l'air décadente de la maison et de la rue.

The outside of the building looks a bit rundown but judging from the thickness of the walls, I suspect the structure is rock solid. The building might not look pretty but it is beautiful to people living on it because it is home ... I rather have a home than a beautiful house. Nice capture and wondefully composed. Well done! tfs

I was never a Tintin fan so I miss the analogy, but the house is certainly in need of some care and attention. Good capture with the inclusion of the men watching the world go by.

Hello Stéphane,

I find always a picture out of the daily life very lovely, this is the reality.
You story about Tintin, I remember this book so well, I'm a great fan of the books from Hergé.
Very well composition and excellent colours too, nice addition the three people before the door.

Stéphane, c'est une maison qui semble venir directement de l'album d'Hergé. J'aime la couleur ou plutôt les couleurs de la façade. Par contre, il me semble que tu as oublié de faire plus net après la compression ou est-ce voulu ?

C'est vrai que ça à un petit air de Syldavie. J'aime beaucoup l'aspect "déglingué" de cette maison qui aurait besoin d'un sacré coup de peinture. Même le banc jaune a l'air un peu fatigué. Mais le détail le plus croustillant de cette image, c'est la cable qui assure le raccordement de la cabine téléphonique!

Hi Stephane,
I agree with fellow TE members the object is lovely, but the photographic work is really poor in my opinion. These are my points:
- the framing - the subject is way too big, filling almost all zones of the picture. There is not much space left for the surrounding objects (fence, trees, pavement, sky)
- the perspective - too flat, the house looks like a movie decor rather than a place to live
- POV - too close to the object. In my opinion you had to either use wider optic or chose POV much left and low
- primary visual zone - none. Good eye catching point could be the red billboard frame or whatever it is there.
- colour balance - I suppose you have chosen a bit lower colour temperature because of the facade colour. I haven't seen pink or reddish pavement yet. Since the paves are made of granit they should be grey.
- and finally the note - I find it way out of subject. I would like to know more about these lovely people and their way of life, rather than some pointless quotation.

Moi j'aime beaucoup les textures delabrees de cette vieille maison et les gens qui attendent devant que le douanier arrive pour entrer en Syldavie !

A very nice capture of this old village house with its blue doors and rickety benches. Very atmospheric and very well caught. I love the textures and the 3 men in the frame are vital here. And I like and think I understand your Tintin association, in Holland he's called "Kuifje".

From stars to the stables, Stephane, one image with magic lights and atmospheres and one with the tragic daily life of people, this sad house with men at the door is the opposite face of the medal that is the world.
Too much long? Anyway, both the faces are trues, and you well show them, compliments.

C'est a priori une image assez classique, mais je trouve qu'il y a quelquechose en plus, dans l'atmosphère ou dans les teintes, c'est beau et accrocheur.

Même si je viens de voir ton tout dernier post (en petite vignette, faut pas aller trop vite ;-)), dernier post qui me fait furieusement saliver) je commente cette photo que je souhaitais commenter depuis plusieurs jours .
j'aime beaucoup, en fait, pas tellement pour la photo qui, en terme de créativité, est loin de tes derniers posts; pas tellement pour Tintin (c'est une lecture de garçon, je ne connais pas trop) mais pour l'ambiance, pour ce que ça représente quand tu es à pied et que tu vois cette maison au fin fond de la Syldavie.
Là, tu as l'impression que le voyage commence, là tu te dis, ça va être différent...et c'est pour ça que ta photo me plaît.
elle est vraiment bonne cette photo
Bonnes vacances ...
Je vais voir ta dernière photo...en grand cette fois !

The clarity of detail here and colourful hues come together very well, with the people appearing to be almost furtive in shadow, adding a tone of mystery. I always thought Syldavia was somewhere in the former Yugoland, like Bosnia, and Borduria is something like Belarus, but I admit this one definitely qualifies, great fun analogy.

Titre bien trouve mais je ne suis pas sure que tout le monde ait les memes references, en tous cas tu as certainement trouve aussi une facade interessante et plutot tragico comique, avec le banc bancal, et j'espere voir bientot des photos aussi stimulantes de ton voyage en Inde,

Tu as l'air de te plonger ds unmonde tres contraste mais fascinant.
Marrent, un telephophe Mobika au mur de cet vieux edifice qui a ete qq ch d'administratif ds le passe tres recent. La ou tu a ete,le monde est partage entre la crois et le croissant.

La seconde fois que Tintin était passé en Syldavie c'était dans Objectif Lune et On a marché sur la Lune.
Une maison qui a été bien secouée par les ans, mais je préfère de loin ça par rapport aux HLM des années 60.

Superbe et très originale photo.
J'aime le contraste ancien/moderne: le vieux et le nouveau banc, la maison en ruine et le téléphone installé dessus... on espère donc qu'elle ne sera pas détruite. Il règne une atmosphère étrange, sans doute accentuée par la teinte du ciel. Ces 3 hommes attendent quoi? le bus? Ils semblent visiblement étonnés que tu les prennes en photo;

I see you were here just a short while ago as well!
A good colorful shot of a very traditional house here in Bulgaria.
I like the charming look of the houses here, very colorful and they all seem to have had their roofs repaired several times:) The worn bench in front of the house is also a classic in the countryside where most of them seem to be in poor condition (at least here in the north central part where i am).

Great shot! The dark colour of the sky, with the birght orange of the worn out building, shabby benches and the few men standing gives the impression of a a gloomy day in a sparsely populated old village, full of mysteries. Thanks for sharing.
