[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Unlike the Old Bridge and the surrounding souvenir shops and restaurants along the Neretva River, much of Mostar is still in ruins from the war in Bosnia. I was walking along an area that had been damaged terribly when Catholics, Orthodox and Muslims went for each other. When I saw this large billboard, I stopped in my
tracks, struck by the contrast between what the advertisement said and the ruin behind it. From Heart to Heart reads the advertisement for a special soup, one to be shared with those you love. It made me wonder what was that extra thing that came with the soups in countless houses, countless families. What poisonous words about the OTHER were added as these soups were consumed at the family table , so that in time a whole city ended up in ruins and graveyards dotted the landscape."Teach your children well," goes the song.Unfortunately many lessons are taught about the differences and not about the things that unite us.
I brightened the image, sharpened it and used the distort option to straighten the building a little.

This is a re-post. I was in a hurry to post and didn't do the picture justice. I sharpened it some more and increased contrast.

Hello Klaudio
A poignant post & a well written note...the billboard advertisement does make a stark contrast with the war torn ruins. An ad about food of all things! Lovely post Klaudio, which shows us that commercialism & reality are two different worlds altogether

Zdravo Klaudio,
Iako je u Mostaru sve manje i manje takvih porusenih zgrada uvijek me dirne kad vidim nesto tako. Dobar kontrast sa ovim velikim panoom i reklama Podravke stvarno jej jak kontrast sa ovom pozadinom.
pozdrav,
maki

It's been a long time since I last came back to your pictures... You're one of the first members I recall from my day one. This is a huge place and sometimes we tend to stay away due to the amount of choices and demanding we have to cope. I like this picture very much. Mainly because I've been in Mostar in 2004 in a brief passage and I was deeply moved by the destruction on the Catholic side of the river. I've been in this particular avenue as I recall these building quite well. Men are really capable of the worst atrocities. Can't even imagine why such hate... Great light in your photo in a good architectural shot. Love the presence of that new ad display. Thanks for the remembering.

Good morning Klaudio,
This photo breaks my heart even it says "heart to heart".I have a photo of myself in front of this building taken in 2007. Building is still same, just the adv. is not existing. Your note is touching to hearts too.
In my gallery i have a photo of a bombed building in Sarajevo with a billboard advertisement like this which says: E=mc2.
Thanks for sharing.
best wishes
Sibel
