Photographer's Note
This rather classical view of the Miljacka River which runs through the Old Town of Sarajevo. This bridge is of historic significance because immediately to the left of it in this photo is where the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria occurred on June 28 1914, an event which is largely considered the 'spark' which lead to WW1. The photo is a bit hazy here because many of the hills were smouldering with brush fires which gave the city an eerie glow at sunset. The city which is the capital of Bosnia Herzegovina is home to about 412,000 people and held the 1984 winter Olympics. It is also the location of recent and severe conflict between 1992 and 1996 in the struggle for independence during the break-up of the former Yugoslavian state.

Hi Matthew
We don't get to see very many photo's from this country, so this one is a pleasant surprise :)
as for that haze you mentioned, it actually makes the bridge stand out that much more, giving even more contrast.
its fun to look at the scene and envision the almost complete circles formed by the arches.
very fine photo of Sarajevo.
cheers

Hi Matt, Good view showing that peace has at last arrived to this previously war-torn city. Vey effective image. Good on you for your adventures to see many parts of the globe. It is perhaps the best education to see how others live. TFS. Murray
