Photographer’s Note
This is the Old Bridge, Stari Most, of Mostar city, Bosnia & Herzegovina. There are many pictures of this bridge on TE and elsewhere, but there may be room for one more, as it has become one of the most famous bridges in Europe.
Originally built in the 1560's during Ottoman rule. the bridge was blown up by tank fire in 1993 during the Bosnian civil war. The reconstructed bridge was inaugurated in 2004.
During the war large parts of Mostar were destroyed and the city is still littered with ruins. The reopening of the bridge is supposed to symbolize reconciliation, but relations between the ethnic and religious groups are still rather tense, not just in Mostar but all over Bosnia & Herzegovina. The scars from the war take a long time to heal.

Hej Gert,
I think that no matter how famous this or that particular object is, and no matter how many photos of it there are on TE (or elsewhere) it is just one more look at it with different eyes (your eyes, in this case), at a different time, at different circumstances... and in different weather! There are no absolutely identical photos.
I like this perspective view, the sunny day and the red houses which are seen behind the bridge. Very interesting architectural piece. And it's also nice to see someone on the bridge, rigt in the very centre of it! :)
Very beautiful, very pleasant photo.
Yes, it takes time for scars to heal, no matter where they are.
Kind regards,
Elena

Hej Gert,
A perfect POV with everything in a very fine placement inside the frame. Did the man at the top of the bridge dive into the river? But somehow I think that maybe you processed the colours a tiny bit too much, there´s some noise in the sky... But compositionwise, this is a perfect capture!

Hi Gert, nice scene, well presented. The traditional looking houses and minaret framed by the impressive bridge work well. cheers, Steve

Hi Gert, The new old bridge from Mostar. Wonderful POV, with the bridge, river, colourful houses and the slender minaret. So many memories for me. It was my first encounter with Muslim culture when I was there in 1968. Women there still wore these funny Turkish trousers. And the bridge was the old one then. A pity I have no photos.
Very symbolic photo.

Hi Gert,
There indeed is room for this unique PoV. You said that the reconstruction symbolises reconciliation, I bet it does! like a lot of our cultural icons...if only the warmongers on both sides could benefit.

Hej Gert,
although the bridge is lacking the aura of the old one it is a marvelous shot due to your excellent POV. The light and the colors are beautiful and the people on the bridge are the icing on the cake. A great symbol! TFS!
Warm regards

A symbol, a mean, a piece of history restored… like Elena Su says, no matter how many photos are in TE, each one is a breath for the future.
Best regards.
