Photographer’s Note
War what is it good for? Always civilians are the victim; no winners only losers.
I hesitated a long time before posting this... but I feel that people have the right to know that in former Yugoslavia things are still not ok. That's why I have placed this picture under "daily life"; the people of this town are still reminded day after day what devastation the war has brought.
The more you go inland from the coast, the more you see buildings shot to pieces, burnt out,...
This is the center of the town Bosansko Grahovo (I had to search longtime to find back the place). The building right is the dom gravilo princip (a school I think); you can also see the tip of the tower of the Petrus-and-Paul church above the central building.
This picture was shot from the car, so that's why there is a large reflection; tried to clear that out, but no use. I think it's not the photographic value that counts but the message behind it.
Make love, not war!

Hi Hendrik, obviously a sensitive subject this one. I can understand the use of B&W for this 'icon', and it works well. Yes, I agree the 'meaning' behind a photograph is very important. However, the composition also needs to support the meaning.... A good PoV, interesting angle. (The reflection is not really noticeable without carefully looking) The focus could have been a little tighter but the subject is the target (or was.....) Regards Tim

Bonsoir Hendrik,
Ce n'est pas l'image qui compte, c'est l'émotion qu'elle donne ou apporte.
L'image parle d'elle-même.
Sujet sensible, mais parfaitement abordé.
Amitiés.

...for nothing, of course, and is always good to show something like this, at least from time to time, to remember...

Hallo Hendrik,
Groeten,
John

I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments; the quality is not an issue here, but the message is and entirely appropriate for TE.
