Belgian Ardennen Photo

Photographer’s Note

The region took its name from the ancient Arduenna Silva, a vast forest in Roman times, that stretched from the Sambre river in Belgium to the Rhine in Germany. The forest was named after a pagan goddess Arduinna. The modern Ardennes covers a much smaller area.

The highly strategic position of the Ardennes has made it a battleground for European powers for centuries. The region repeatedly changed hands during the early modern period, with parts or all of the Belgian Ardennes being incorporated into France, Germany, the Spanish Netherlands, the Austrian Netherlands and the United Kingdom of the Netherlands at various times. In the 20th century, the Ardennes was widely thought unsuitable for large-scale military operations due to its difficult terrain and narrow lines of communications. However, in both World War I and World War II, Germany successfully gambled on making a rapid passage through the Ardennes to attack a relatively lightly defended part of France. The Ardennes saw three major battles during the world wars – the Battle of the Ardennes in World War I, and the Battle of France and Battle of the Bulge in World War II. Many of the towns of the region were badly damaged during the two world wars.

The name of the place is not right, maybe somebody can help me with the name of the place. I was waiting here for a piece of sunnlight and yes when it was there, you can see it. the iso was 100. I hope you like it,

Ik geloof niet dat wij ooit buren zijn geweest op TE qua opladen, nu is dit wel gebeurd.
Dit is prachtig wat u meebracht uit onze Ardennen, grote diepte schitterend kleuren, groot perspectief.
Ook de weerspiegeling is van hoge kwaliteit.

Still a very beautiful photograph where contrasts are superb, I particularly like the lights which emphasize well the smoothness of the landscape and in particular clearness on the channel. Je had denk ik niet het beste weer tijdens je korte trip, maar je weet er in de digitale donkere kamer nog iets fraais uit te persen. Kwa compositie is hij niet zo sterk, wel kwa kleur en vooral in het contrast tussen al dat groen en de lucht.

Olá Jaap, gorgeous picture. I like a lot the two lines of water foam in FG: they give a dynamism that makes me run through the image. With pleasure I find the marvellous reflections along the cannal. The BG so peaceful makes a strong contrast with the FG and I love that. Great shot.

I like this view for its colors and composition.

I had missed this one! Well, I shouldn't have! It's a beautiful one! the grey cloudy sky contrasts perfectly with the several nuances of green in the vegetation and the white walls of the buildings! There's a reflection in the river - I love it! Plus, those "small" waterfalls in the foreground complete the perfect scene!
