Alice did not want to go home yet and made a last run to the water, while her mother was calling her back, that is how I know her name:-)

Yesterday I posted this in color and somehow it did not feel so right, so here a try in b/w. I should have done a repost I realize after Dan's remark, but was somehow distracted. I explained it to Kristaps who had made a comment..., thanks for your patience:-)

It's a simple view, nothing special happening, I just liked her mischevious smile, her name, I do find she would fit well in Wonderland and the late afternoon light...I am curious to see your opinion. My husband told me it looked just like a family snapshot:-) Sometimes I can't make up my mind if to post or not to post...

The color original is in the Workshop.

Cropped 2 cm on the left, desaturation, levels and increased contrast.

'Small but beautiful' is a catchphrase that certainly applies to the small beach resort of De Haan. Thanks to careful architectural planning, De Haan does not suffer from the same 'apartment-blocks'- disease that sometimes disfigures other Belgian coastal cities. A visit to De Haan is like a return to the 'Belle Epoque' of the turn of the century. The name DE HAAN means literally 'The Rooster'. According to a legend the place got this name because a rooster rescued a group of stranded fishermen. His crowing guided them to this safer place.

Hi Michele,

Her glances at you tells the story well...
Lovely Alice... and a dear presentation.
Well composed , and the way you captured this motion is appreciated..
The character is caught well in frame, and i in the right spot...
EXCELLENT, and a fine B/W.
All the best, dear friend.

Hi Michele;

I went looking for yesterdays shot- but I can't find it... I'm guessing you removed it? If it's the same shot, I suggest leaving the original and posting this as a 'repost' to let us compare. Not only that- but by deleting the previous shot you are also removing the critiques others have spent writing...

The composition is good here, and the I quite like the black and white grittiness to the shot.

Cheers!
- Dan

Still she looks in Wonderland.
Good curiosity of surroundings. Nice shot.
Regards Michele.

Hi dear Michele ! My almost neighbour today..
Great b&w capture. Amazing pov. Good idea to capture this cute nice girl, still walking. Which brings to the scene a perfect dynamism.
TFS and best regards

Hello Michele

So...she is Alice in Wonderland...:-)

And you did well to post it...to receive oppinions from others...like me.So,here is my oppinion.
I have to agree with your husband,but...there is always a but...it`s a little bit different to a family snapshot, maybe because you converted it to B&W....don`t know what to say...so...my oppinion is...yes...looks like a family snapshot.

I think you like it...pretty much...because she makes you to rewind few years back, you at her age...doing the same thing...not listening to your mom.

Well...this is what I think. But,if you like it and find yourself in it...I`m happy with that.

My kind regards

Hi Michele

This has to be a serious reminiscent shot, looking at it, it feels me with nostalgia, but I am not sure what, maybe my own childhood or my younger times long gone, I say this because I was born by the sea in the Algarve.

Good position of view specially showing every detail in the sand, well done and all the best

Hello Michele.
You made a good decision to post this image.
It's so human and so natural. The black and white tones are splendid and the composition couldn't be better.
It really like it.
Regards,
Eddie

hello michelle

so, here she is again. the litle belgian barbarian enjoying her stroll towards the sea. personally i preferred to see the redness of her hair, but you know... i'm biased by the caesar's chronicles, lol... he describes belgians as the fiercest and most warlike of all the gaulls... that aside, i like the texturizing effect that you have achieved in the B&W foto. it seems more expressive and more 'about the north seaside' now.

my compliments,
kristaps

Hello Michelle. I do like her expression in the photo and your choice to post in black and white was a good one. When I read your comments on the DE HAAN it gave me an interesting idea. You see at my work place there are quite a few number of ladies in the office of which for fun I called them all chickens because sometimes when women at work talk it sounds like chickens clucking. They in turn started to call me Mr Rooster..an expression which made me feel very proud. But now I can assume a far more respectable title Mr De Haan...moving up in class. Oh yes nice shot!

bonjour Michèle, une expression très amicale et drole avec cette génuflexion....j'aime beaucoup en BW, je ne dirai pas le contraire et de plus comme le ciel devait être blanc; c est donc mieux;
une scène toujours d'actualité, les enfants qui veulent rester sur la page et les parents "casse pied" hehe...
passe une bonne soirée
francine

Hi Michele. Definitely b&w for me. A very nice conversion and it changes the photo from a good to a great one. Much more than just a snapshot in my opinion. Chris

hello Michele,

Nice b&w and high contrast. i like the eye-contact with the girl. i can imagine she doesn't want to go home when she is being photographed ;)))
greetings, inn

Bien amicalement,
Fabrice

Hello Michele,

Unfortunately I didnt see your previous post, but this one is very nice. Children never care when somebody takes a photo, they dont care how they look, what they do, they simply enjoy their time and thats why photos with children are so good:) Additionaly very well suited title gives some mysterious climate ehre...

Good job Michele,
Best greetings from Poland
Mikeo

Hi Michèle,
Today I am home wiht my children due to some fever, so when they are sleeping I do some cath up here on te.

The Photo is truly a original "Merline" B/w with some extra postwork making the horizon and background fading away. You have really a taste of rough b/w photos and I like it. Great portrait as often.

Hi Michele,
Even the picture is in black and white I can feel the a lot of the summer sense...I prefer this version from the color one for the tones in the sand also...and I love the houses looking like minatures near the cute girl...
I enjoy it Michele,a photo fitting very much to my taste for photography...

take care,
Thomas

Hello Michele,
How i like that green sweather she is wearing in the colour version, but how i like even more your b&w conversion with much stronger contrast and better focalpoints. The sky looks terrible but that's not important here, it's the pose of the little girl and the way how you captured it. Innocent with a lovely smile...wonderful, truly wonderful.
Regards, Henk

For me, and probably for most everyone, this is very evocative of childhood, Michele. She has ratty old clothes and clearly not a care about anything except staying at that beach. The tones are really nice, and B/W has a timeless feel, like this could be now or two generations ago. Regards, Ken.

A very good example of "capturing the moment", which is much more difficult than it seems because there is a subtle difference between a snapshot and a decisive photo. Yours is great. Congrats.

Hi Michèle,

Honestly, I do not think of it as a snapshot, I feel it as a marvelous contact with a girl full of joy and sparkles in her eyes, knowing that she has to leave her dearest place but still stealing a moment for herself. After seeing your previous capture and reading your note, I see you in her. I can see your love for this place through her smile and eyes. Maybe that is the reason for you seeing more in this capture than your husband. I do not know, but I love it. I love the composition of Alice in front and vast beach behind her with countless footsteps I can easily imagine as of Alice running through this place whole day, discovering every small piece of it.

Warm regards,
Jeri

Hi Michele !
Like this photo very much. Something in this girl's attitude touches me very intensively. Maybe because I was girl myself (really I was, nevertheless how hard it is now to believe) and maybe because I grew up on the waterside and used to spend a lot of time at sea shore (still use as a matter of fact)... So if it is a snapshot it comes straight out of my memoirs an my dreams of childhood ;) And I tThink the bw version is great here.
Greetings T.
