Agace-Pissette Belge Photo

Photographer’s Note

Since TE is about learning about the world, let's make place to Quebecois french wording, an Agace-Pissette is about like a teaser, but with the implied meaning of promising without delivering, somehow synonym of a politician...

So here is a nice example of Belgian Agace-Pissette with this "Maison du Roi" standing on the Grand Place, with that name you could think the King in person will greet you there and invite you to have a beer inside...

Well not, in fact there is here a discrepancy between the french and the dutch "Broodhuis" name (bread House) which was the original purpose of this house, while in french we refer to a later usage in time when this house was transformed into an administrative office.

Whatever it is, it is nice isn't it ?

Well, Brussels isn't the only example of such kind of Agace-Pissette, in Amsterdam there is also the Royal Palace in which no member of the Dutch royal family ever lived...

Teaser or not, here you've got a wonderful purple hour shot with much of the Gothic details to admire... and as for the beer, there is a Beer Museum just across the Grand Place!

A rose by any other name! Very good night time composition with excellent colours and clarity. The ghostlike figures add to the ambience. Perhaps, could do with some perspective correction on the left, but there again you would likely lose the people edge of frame.

Quel superbe monument. Les détails architecturaux sont nombreux, et subtilement soulignés par l'éclairage que tu sais parfaitement maitriser.
Très bonne idée de présenter ce palais de nuit.
J'aime beaucoup l'effet fantôme sur les promeneurs, qui se fondent discrètement dans les pavés, et ne pertubent pas la contemplation du bâtiment.
Très belle réalisation, bravo.

Effectivement, splendide monument (qui penchouille un brin) pris au meilleur moment de la soirée. J'aime beaucoup cet empilement de colonnade que tu as très bien mis en évidence grâce à la bonne luminosté de l'ensemble. La lumière urbaine donne beaucoup de chaleur aux couleurs.

A skillfully handled night shot, JY. Fine tech all around with significant detail and a good atmosphere provided by the lighting. The close framing works well, although I wonder if it wouldn't have been a little better to move the camera slightly further to the left. Good notes too.

Manifestement, tu sais tirer d'excellentes images d'un fichier Canon. Ça devrait être d'autant plus facile avec une image de chez Nikon. Ça te dit d'en traiter une à moi pour notre initiative Edited By?

Beautiful night shot! The lighting on the building is really amazing. I would love to do some shots like this, but unfortunately there are almost no buildings in Vancouver that are lit up like this. The small amount of light in the sky is great too, much better than a black background. Well done!

Je ne connaissais pas le terme "agace-pissette", mais ça convient bien ici - l'endroit où je t'ai vu pour la 1ère fois, et une très belle photo avec une chouette atmosphère et des couleurs splendides !
Cette "maison du roi" est maintenant un musée de l'histoire de la ville de Bruxelles, très intéressant d'ailleurs...

'Agace-Pissette' Je trouve ce terme charmant!
Quant à cette 'Maison de Roi', elle est superbe. Mais entre nous, on s'en fiche que le roi y soit ou non ;-)
Encore une fois tu réussis parfaitement à gérer éclairage et environnement nocturne, pour une compo réussie avec de beaux reflets sur les pavés.

you had two posts previously the german simplicity - is this here now the belgian simplicity? ;-)
I guess that you did some distortion corrections here, right? It turned out extremely good and I love the wide angle approach giving a lot of details in this so typical descriptive approach. Nice detail to have the blurred people in this scene giving scale and dynamics.

Quand je vois des bâtiment d'une telle beauté, je me pose sans cesse la question; y aura-t-il toujours des gens et de l'argent pour protéger ces merveilles? En ce qui concerne la bière et les tartines, je ne saurais que te conseiller un petit tour à la brasserie de la "mort subite". Je ne crois pas me rappeler de tartines plus larges, de ma vie...

A propos de la photo, le sale temps a au moins un avantage; de jolis reflets dans ces p***ns de pavés!

ahahahah, c'est André qui t'apprend nos expressions? Dans quelle circonstance il t' appris ça? Je me le demande bien!!:D On se crée des attentes, et puis hop, on se fait couper l'herbe sous le pied...pas de bière. pas de roi.:D
J'aime le ton violacé du ciel, les détails impressionants de l'édifice, les tons dorés de l'édifice et des réflexions et les personnages fantômes. Les détails sont vraiment impressionants!!!

It is nice, perfect timing,the architecture is so ornate witout being overdone, and despite the wide angle there is no lens distortion, exactly as the eye sees it.
After years living in Quebec I cannot understand spoken Quebecois unfortunately, the TV news I can, but people speaking..., it seems like another language.
