It is no doubt about it that the "Hotel de Ville" the City Hall is the most beautiful building in Brussels and all the statues that decorate the facade is fantastic The construction began in 1402 and the original Town Hall was ready in 1405. Then in 1449 in was expanded and the present tower was built. The City Hall was seriously damaged during the destruction of Brussels by the French troops in 1695 and restoration started almost at once. In the following centuries the original decorative statues withered away. In 1840 a complete restoration began and the entire facade was decorated with a total of 203 statues. The statues depict the ruling Dukes and Duchesses of Brabant between 580 and 1564. One of those statues is seen in this photo, but there is 202 others.

Hello Ulf,
I am sure that the building must be very beautiful with this decoration.I like very much this detailed shot...also well composed with the geometry of the form. The statues of course gives most of the beauty.

Hello Ulf,
From the thumbnail I was pretty sure it is B&W, but not so...
Intriguing composition with fine lines, and the angle of light gives nice depth to the relieff!
Greetings,
Pablo -

hi ulf...
beautiful sculpture and you've covered it perfectly.... with high quality as usual...
greetings...

Hej Ulf, this is a very well rendered detail of this statue and its context. The ornamentation is simply astounding. The management of te light is superb - one can easily distinguish the subtle gradation of hues in the stone. Beautiful work!
Have a fine week,
Bert
