Photographer’s Note
Belfort van Gent
Yesterday I was browsing through my archives and looking in the folder with pictures from my trip to Gent and Antwerpen in Belgium two years ago. Here I found three pictures of het Belfort van Gent, which I stitched using Autostitch.
Het Belfort van Gent (Belfry of Ghent) is one of the three medieval towers in the centre of the Belgian city of Gent (English: Ghent, French: Gand). The tower is 91 metres high. Building of the tower started probably before 1314.
The building in front of the tower is de Lakenhal (Cloth Hall). Both buildings are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In the background you can also see de Sint-Niklaaskerk (St. Nicholas' Church), an gothic church from the 13th century.
The city of Gent is the capital of the province of Oost-Vlaanderen (East-Flanders). The city is located at the place where the rivers Leie (Lys) and Schelde (Scheldt) come together. The city has 231,000 citizens.
In the Middle Ages, Gent has been an important city in Northern Europe and was only a little bit smaller than Paris and bigger than cities like Hamburg, Cologne and London. The city was in those days important city for cloth.
Hope you like it!

Hi Lars, so you were on the other side of Saint Nicolas!! A nice stitch of the Belfort!
I am chauvinist of course, but I think Gent is a really beautiful city. :~)

Hi Lars. That's a nice find in your archives. I usually find really bad shots and nothing like this! ;) I'm amazed you were able to fit that much wide-angle in your camera. The people and the rich colors they are wearing adds a useful burst of color. You should have posted this a long time ago!

Hej Lars,
good job to show us the complete one. The view over the place with some life and the statue is a wonderful entrance for that good composition of cloth hall and tower. Good contrasts on that impressing architecture added by some city and a good sky.

Dag Lars,
Mooie foto goed samengesteld.
Onze vriend John is een Gentenaar, zal zijn stad nogwel kennen.
Bedankt.
Groeten uit Vlaanderen,
John.

This reminds me so much of the cloth hall in Ypres. You did well to frame this in its entirity, which couldn't have been easy. A nice sharp shot too. Hope you are well Lars,

Fijn weekend,

Dag Lars!
My memories from Ghent are much more cloudy than your picture ;-P
You have taken a great angle, which one and only "actor in the leading role". I like the placement you have chosen, well centered, the light and colours are very natural and the result is excellent!
Cheers Lars, enjoy your weekend! ;-)

Hola Lars.
Very interesting work with the stitches, getting three shots taken 2 years ago and put them together, this is an amazing architecture very well captured from a good POV. Good sharpness and lighting, the people dressed with red colors produces a nice color contrast.
You wrote in your note "I stitched using Autostitch", is there a special program called Autostitch or you can get it in Photoshop??
Well done.
Best regards.

Bonjour, mon ami Lars,
Je devais avoir 14 ans lorsque j'ai vu Gand, c'est dire, si les souvenirs sont lointains.
La beauté de cette architecture est magnifiquement mise en valeur. Impressionnant ! Bravo pour le respect des verticales.
Amitiés.

Hej Lars,
well captured and nicely framed shot of this impressive tower. Before reading your note, I was wondering about how did you put it in one frame, because I remember that I had a lot of problems to do it, when visited Gent in my pre-digital era. Very good work with stitching!
Tfs and best wishes.

Hello Lars,
I like this photo very much showing the majestic edifice in Gent. The woman with her two children add significant red highlight to the image. The vertical format is of course the correct choice for this presentation. Thank you as usual for your informative note.

Hi Lars,
This point of view gave the necessary poise that this building deserved and with the clarity and fine colours,a lovely sight to the beholder. The clouds did the finishing touches to this nice composition. Great capture!!

Hello Lars,
It is quite impressive when looking at the building skills back then! And I guess it was the same motivation back then as it is today concerning having the tallest building in the world...
The square makes it possible here to get a full view of the structure; great details in the architecture and well framed, and I like the guys in red!
Greetings,

Olá Lars, quite a pleasant place that you present here. The architecture is impressive and imposing and the square seems to be a nice one to relax a bit from a long walk around the city. Nice human atmosphere with the people sat around. I like the contrast of color from the family in red at right FG. Excellent presentation and good work with Autostitch.
Groet,
ricardo
