Here is the second of a series of three to depict Rosary Quay - each one different I hope. The first one I submitted yesterday
(here)
showed you a wonderful sunrise in Bruges. This next one was inspired by Didier Keus' (dkeus31) shot of the
Grand Place
. After the weather clouded over I went out with the family and left my camera home. When I happened upon this scene I ran back to get it. I loved the look of the buildings in front of the dark gray sky. The darkest sky had already passed by the time I returned but I managed to get something I enjoy in this photo.

For this particular capture I used a 1 stop grad but inverted it to tone down the reflection of the water. I also used a two-stop grad on top to accentuate the dark sky. I deliberately took a lower POV this time and tilted the camera slightly upwards to converge the verticals a little bit (contradictory to what I'd normally do). I thought this somehow gave the sky a bit more of an imposing feel. In post processing I adjusted levels on the sky and performed selective sharpening of the buildings. I reduced noise using NeatImage. Apart from that I performed the usual PP using PSE5.0: levels, saturation, resize, sharpen, frame.

I hope you like this one. One more Rosary Quay shot tomorrow and I'll move on - I promise :)

Wow, spectacular lighting, and a very dramatic sky in behind. I like the way the canal runs right down the middle and the buildings on each side act as a frame to it. Beautiful work!

Hi Bob, wonderful shot from Bruges. I am really getting confused with all those shots from Europe where do you actually live. Is it US which you have in your profile or is it UK, from which you have many beautiful shots ? One way or the other, this is well composed and captured photo with some real dramatic weather that adds strong atmosphere. Well done. Lucie

hello Bob,
Well uing of the overcast sky here, the tretures are great, the POV is classicaly good ;o)

Witaj Bob!
I know this city ;-). Your photo is curious. I like the colors and light. Very impressive picture. Good work.

Krzysztof

Hi Bob, so many interesting photos in your gallery I dont know which to chose.. Well this is very nice indeed. I appreciate this composition and the exposure is very well handled. Just love that moody sky. If possible I would try to correct the "very" slight distortion on right tower. I only noticed this because of my numerous images of Lighthouses which I am correcting lately. Very well done..

Bob,
This is a great shot of Bruges with an excellent sky. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail. The composition and POV are great with the canal leading the eye through the photo.

Asa

Excellent. Technically brilliant photo. MArvelous light bring's up best in this good looking urban photo

Hi Bob,

amazing view. Very nice light controls and efficient saturation and contrast. That heavy clouds is a good point for the composition. They contrast very well with the beautiful architecture of the place. Great work!

Carlos

Hi Bob,

I love the dramatic lighting in this photo. You have a great eye for this fantastic kind of light. Great composition with a fantastic POV, great colours and details! Excellent work, Bob!

Greetings,

PS: You have an amazing gallery! I couldn't help critiquing on this one as it is a photo of my the country where I was born (my dad was actually born in Bruges)...I moved to Canada 7 years ago and I love it! But once a Belgian, always a Belgian they say. I sure enjoy seeing such beautiful photos of Belgium! Thanks for sharing!

Bonjour Bob,
il y a de l'excellent travail en post processing ici, qui même si la photo en perd un peu en naturel, elle y gagne en esthétique. j'aime des fois admirer ce que l'oeil aimerait voir si il savait jouer avec les paramètres comme un appareil photo.
Best regards.
Daniel.
