The "Canal du centre" is an axis of connection between Meuse and Scheldt basins. In order to compensate 66 meters high between the 2 basins, four hydraulic boat lifts were built between 1888 and 1917.
These lifts are double, the weights of the two vats compensating for and allowing a handling by the only hydraulic force.
Here, the lift number 4, located at Thieu.
Boat lifts of the "Canal du centre" form part of the world inheritance of UNESCO since 1998. |

Hi Fabrice,
A very nice & clear picture of this remarkable place. Excellent sharpness and detail and nice "postcard" colors. TFS
