This is another photo of my « Sq. Marguerite, Brussels : views from my flat » theme, and a close up from the other photo with the same name.

(Unchanged, because I don't know how to modify my photos ; after a very rainy day in March, the sunset was fantastic and the sky was changing every minute - the colours that I saw were actually a little darker than this).

This is another view "street side", towards the south east. My square was totally transformed by developpers in the 1960s ; but the adjcent streets have buildings dating roughly from 1893 to 1910, the dates and the name of the architect often mentioned on the facade.

On the right, the big building is a primary school, dating from the same period.

Far away, the avenue de Cortenberg (leading to Schuman square with the EU headquarters), with its office buildings that are still being built, many of them for the EU ; on the horizon, 3 landmarks : the only minaret in Brussels, and the bronze statues (an angel in the middle, an sun illuminated allegoric chariot on the left) are both part of the big "cinquantenaire" complex, built by king Leopold II for the 50 years of Belgium, end of 19th century (yes, Belgium is not an old country - and yes, many things could be said about our 2nd king, but his mark on Brussels is not erasable, he acted a little like Haussman in Paris, of course on another scale).

(the minaret belongs to the "grand mosque" of Brussels : it is not that big, but oldish as it is more than 100 years old, - actually the building, dating from the same era as the "Cinquantenaire" and part of the same park and complex, was originally "le Panorama du Caire", a huge panoramic painting of Cairo in a round building built in an "orientalist" style ; I am not sure if the minaret dates from that time or whether it was built later on. Anyway, this is now the biggest mosque in Brussels, but it cannot hold such a huge assistance.)

bonjour Catherine
amicalement
