It is always good to try something different. I do not think that I have posted anything like this before. This funny sign is found in Parc Léopold in Maelbeek, Brussels. It looks as if the sign has been there for a while if you look at the skater’s clothes and the look of his skates. Probably it was a very long time ago anyone even got the idea of skating here. This photo is taken in early February the coldest period of the year and it was quite cold in the preceding night with a temperature of –1 °C and some snowfall, but not the slightest sign of ice could be seen on the pond. Perhaps a sign of global warming?

The park is situated in the heart of the European district and is very close to the premises of European Parliament The pond is one of the last remaining ponds of the Maelbeek Valley, and here you find many birds especially herons, but also mallards, common moorhens and coots.

Marek

Excellent compo, framing and vivid colors. I like the combination of dark blue and red, the shining water and the city from the BG.

Andreea

Hej Ulf,
Really funny capture! Well seen. It indeed doesn't seem to be very recommendable to skate here. :-) You captured the sign well, it stands nicely out against its surroundings. Good work!
Regards,
Lars

Nice reflectiuons on the dark unfrozen waters..

Hi Ulf!
A very good capture! It really makes us think for a while.
The dark background really makes us look at the sign. Good colours!
Regards, Anabela

It certainly made me smile, as we don't need your note to tell us there is no ice. Well spotted.

Hej Ulf, a funny take on this beautiful park! I guess this will stay redundant for quite a while. Well composed and the flash was well handled too - there's still enough interesting light and detail in the background. Very nice!
Have a fine weekend!
Bert

Priceless observation, Ulf! I can relate, though I live in Canada! While most hockey is played indoors now, once they played on ponds, which would make for a irregular season these days...
What comes to mind is the sport of bandy, played on lakes in Sweden, a cross between hockey and soccer, now I am wondering: do they still play that, and what is the weather like over there now?
Cheers
Otto
