[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Eole was for the Romans the god of the wind. In french we call theze "éolienne" wich can be traslated as daugther of Eole. A park of 6 wind turbines was buid in Villers-le-Bouillet, near Vinalmont and close to the motorway. I went off the motorway to take this picture. It was a sunny day, with almost no wind at all. With the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol closing in 2012, the EU has launched discussions on its future long-term strategy to fight global warming. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transport and making continued use of market-based mechanisms such as emissions trading are among the main elements of the proposed strategy. But the first and biggest challenge will be to draw all major world emitters - including the US and China - into a binding pollution-cutting scheme. The Kyoto Protocol - a binding addendum to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) - requires industrialised countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 5% compared to their 1990 levels between 2008 and 2012. The EU has committed to a reduction of 8% under this first commitment period. This "eoliennes" park is part of Wallonia efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In his comment, Pascal Delfosse add the fact that each wind turbine of that park is producing 1,5 Megawatt/hour which is equivalent of the mean consumption of 600 familly. This means that it is 12000 tons/year of warming gaz that will not be produce and this for each windturbine.

Hope you'll like it. JLoup

Bonsoir Jean Loup,
Daniel.

Hi Jean,Perfect composition and a nice view very good contrast, well done.
Ahmet

Hi JeanLoup. Great note, I love these wind generators and have some photos of my own of similar turbines. You have captured these well, with strong composition and good colour.
TFS. Cheers, Paul.

This is a much better photo than my one (http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Oceania/Australia/photo405014.htm).

I like the subject matter of this photo, These wind generators are not only magnificent to see, but they are also a truely useful alternative for power production.

The composition is good, the large amount of foreground gives the turbines a sense of scale and the trees balance them well.

I was impressed, also, by the detailed information and passionate commitment shown in the note and I was ashamed (once more) that my own country still refuses to ratify the Kyoto Protocol in order to sit at the feet of George W.

Bravo!
Marc

bonjour JLoup,
