Old Flemish painting VI Photo

Photographer’s Note

A picture taken almost one month ago at Ursel on borders with Maldegem. Near it forest its different meadows for sheep and other animals to graze. See www.natuurpunt.be a pity only in Netherlands. It was a very difficult photograph for take, I've chosen for cropped of the sky, you can see in WS a picture with the white sky.
I hope you enjoy of these painting, maybe little dark, but come through bad weather.

Bonjour John
J'aime cette photo. Cela ressemble plus aux Landes qu'à la Flandre. C'est très bizzare. J'aime la manière dont tu as coupé le ciel. Peux être certaines parties de la photo sont légérement sous exposées.

This is my favorite one of your photos as its a bit closer to what I like. The photo is set up like a very good street photo, except ofcourse its not a street photo. However, the way you placed the man to the side, the strong focus on the human story, its reall y very good, and thats why its my favorite from all your shots.

Morgen John,
inderdaad, de foto kan doorgaan voor een oud Vlaams schijlderij.Zeer goed van kleuren met die bruine grastoppen tussen het resterende groen en de kleurige schapenkudde. Goed geplaatste herder in typisch mantel met stok en herdershond. Zeer goede foto, veel beter dan de WS.

Goedemorgen John,
Mooi en stemmig pastoraal beeld met een goed gekozen scherpe crop. Fraai hoe je de relatie van de herder, zijn hond en de schaapjes in beeld hebt gebracht. Inderdaad een verhaal. Prachtige kleuren ook. Bedankt ook voor het posten van de WS voor de vergelijking.
Een fijn weekend toegewenst van een bewolkt en vohtig Rotterdam bij 16 gr,

Is this for real, he looks like he's walked out of one of those living museums, but it sounds like you've found an insteresting little backwater, and in one of the most densely populated regions of the world.

Hi John, A beautiful shot of the sheep and the shepherd and the faithful dog. A very well composed picture with nice proportion arrangement and color contrast. Nice and interesting picture.

Hi John,
an image of 'old times', for the clothes of the shepherd, the view of the dog and the sheepes immerse in an almost wild nature. Even the dark colos add something to the old sensation, i think that the choice of cropping away the white sky is a good one, concenter the attentione to the subjects and add atmosphere.
Very nice, very bucolic and intense, compliments!

In my opinion you did well cropping the sky. I like the way and the enquadrement you did to this shot. Excelent colors and fine sharpness. It seems that you took the picture in the 16th century. The title is fine for this composition. Very well seen, done and composed. I like it!

Mooi hoor John, een echt Vlaamse Meester.
goede compositie, al moet ik zeggen dat ik de ongecropte foto zeker goed vind ondanks zijn witte lucht. De kleuren zijn mooi en de compositie is goed genomen, goed werk John.

A nice timeless scene, John, with the shepherd + dog and their flock out in the green. The decision to crop the sky was a good one, but I think you could have just slightly brightened the remaining photo. Nice capture.

Dag, John. Een mooi beeld van deze herder met zijn schapen. Het ziet er een beetje 19de-eeuws uit: de kleding, het lang haar en de lange stok van de herder, geen enkel teken van moderniteit in de omgeving. Een mooi natuurstuk uit uw groene streek. Ik denk dat u gelijk had de hemel uit te knippen. Die was echt te bleek.

Salut John, ce troupeau est bien saisi, les couleurs un peu sombres donnent une atmosphère de vieille peinture flamande. Le berger pourrait lui aussi être d'une autre époque.

Cadrage parfait pour restituer cette peinture bucolique . Cela devient rare de pouvoir trouver un berger et ses moutons.

Hallo John,
Goed deze zonder lucht te kadreren zoals te zien in de WS, nogal wit. Metteen worden we dicht op dit tafereel betrokken met een nostalgisch gevoel voor de herder met zijn hond en zijn kudde, een beeld dat je hier nog zelden tegenkomt, mooi van dicht in beeld gebracht.

C'est une image qui effectivement aurait pu être un tableau comme on en faisait au XIX eme siecle sur les travaux de la campagne.
Bien composé avec aussi de très belles couleurs.

J'aime beaucoup cette image qui est un véritable tableau. Les couleurs sont merveilleusement saturées.
J'aime aussi ta façon de faire, de nous expliquer, workshop à l'appui, ce que tu as estimé bon, comment tu as procédé, pour faire de l'originale une très bonne image à poster.

Bonjour John,
il est bien exact que les couleurs, lourdes et sombres rappellent bien le style des certaines ouevres de peintres bien de chez nous.
Tu as bien fait de 'cropper' le ciel, chose que plus souvent on devrait faire.
Cela donne donc un excellent cadrage et des lumières sombres bien adaptées à la scène.

Bonjour John
Cela ressemble à un paysage des Pyrénées sans les ours.
La scène est très appréciable.
Malgré le mauvais temps je constate que la vitesse est élevée, ce qui signifie que la luminosité est relativement forte; il était possible de surexposer de +1/3 par rapport aux paramètres affichés.
Mais l'éclairage ambiant est suffisant pour cette atmosphère automnale.

Inderdaad een prachtig schilderij. Ik moet de juiste schilder er nog even bij zoeken.Je hebt het orgineel goed bewerkt. Betere uitsnede gemaakt en het spiegelen levert toch ook een betere compositie op, op een of andere manier.

Bonjour John, Ce petit troupeau semble bien à l'abri dans un creux du terrain. L'aspect un peu sombre et les ton rouges de l'image renforce cette impression de replis à l'abri du vent. Le fait d'avoir coupé le ciel aussi. Le berger semble venu d'un autre age.

This definitely resembles an old Flemish painting. The cloaked shepherd with his dog could have been out of a scene one hundred years ago. Despite the low light, one can clearly see all of the fine details. I like the positioning of the shepherd, mysteriously shrouded to the right of the frame. This is very inspiring work, John. Well captured.

Deze foto heb ik om de een of andere rede gemist maar hij is er niet minder mooi om. Het is een prachtige landelijke compositie.

Het is inderdaad als een schilderij; zelfs een schilderij van Breughel uit lang verleden tijden. Zelfs de herder heeft zich voor de gelegenheid toepasselijk gekleed. Men zou bijna denken dat het geensceneerd is, zo goed is de samenstelling.
