Photographer’s Note

This time I'll show you a bit of my hometown: Damme. For me, it certainly is one of the most beautiful places on earth (but I guess everybody sais that of his/her own region).
Anyway, this is our town hall from outside. This first town hall was constructed in 1241 and was rebuilt in 1464 (present state). Count Thomas de Savoie and countess Joanna from Constantinopel gave permission to the town to build this hall. The present town hall was built in 1464 on the place where the hall stood before. That hall was believed to be about twice as large as the present-day town hall. In front of the town hall is the market square on which there is a statue of Jacob van Maerlant, a famous flemish writer.

A well composed shot of the old town hall. I like the soft hues and warm tones here. The framing and cropping are effective in highlighting the beautiful architecture. The bicycles enhance and the buildings to the left balance the scene. Well captured.

as far as architectural photos go, this is a nice one. Well composed, good care taken in lighting conditions, nice colors, good POV. Its textbook.

Dag Hendrik,
Ik durf het bijna niet te zeggen, nooit heb ik het stadhuis van Damme willen plaatsen, ik dacht dit primeur moet ik aan Hendrik laten, en het is er toch van gekomen. En eveneens zeer mooi en zoals mijn naambgenoot zegt, zonder touristen, want die zij er altijd in overvloed.
Het is mooi werk, dit moet men in de wereld ontdekken!

An impressive piece of architecture Hendrik. I like the tones of grey set against the cobalt sky. Lots of cycles but where are all the people?

Een goed perspectief hoek om even de zijkant mee te nemen van de trapgevel en fijn gedetailleerd, mooi om deze streek met zijn typische architectuur die de rijkdom van de streek weergeeft met zijn stadhuis, we leren zo alle hoekjes van Vlaanderen kennen, ik zie dat John een handje heeft toegestoken, da's fijn.
Inspirerend, zou ik dat hier met Lokeren eens moeten doen ? Heb daar al een aparte site van, zou deze eens dringend kunnen aanvullen ....

ils ont eu la mauvaise idée de faire un parking juste à cet endroit. De quoi dénaturer un superbe lieu.
Le cadrage est tout bon, excepté ce parking :-),
les couleurs bien rendues.

Salut Hendrik,
C'est bien de nous montrer l'endroit ou tu vis, surtout quand il y a une belle architecture comme ca, des foi sil n'y a pas besoin de voyager a l'autre bout du mon de pour faire une belle photo ;-)
En plus de l'architecture et de la belle mise en lumiere j'aime bien l'angle qui permet de bien voir deux des cotes du batiment.

what a pretty town you live in .... it seems like a wonderful place to live peacefully
All these places in Europe looks soo good in the photos with all that culture and all but your town seems exceptionally nice ... i guess I will have to experience the life in the small towns of Europe first hand to get the true experience
