Photographer’s Note

This time I'll show you a bit of my hometown: Damme. For me, it certainly is one of the most beautiful places on earth (but I guess everybody sais that of his/her own region).
Anyway, this is our town hall from outside. This first town hall was constructed in 1241 and was rebuilt in 1464 (present state). Count Thomas de Savoie and countess Joanna from Constantinopel gave permission to the town to build this hall. The present town hall was built in 1464 on the place where the hall stood before. That hall was believed to be about twice as large as the present-day town hall. In front of the town hall is the market square on which there is a statue of Jacob van Maerlant, a famous flemish writer.
