This is my second night picture of Bruges. I'm busy to it experimentation with night photography. With pleasure I get reactions.

You call this experimenting? John, it's already a great one.
Maybe you might try some more cropping, that's all. i have cropped out the window on the right. i think the white paint around it is taking the attention away.

Excellent shot John. The illumination of the historic centre of Bruges certainly helped here. It is amazing to see the sky so light, it must be the light polution.:)

Hey John,
terug een zeer goede laat-avondfoto. Zeer scherp, goed lichtn grote diepte en vooral een zeer scherpe weerspiegeling in het rimpeloze reiewater. Jammer dat de sfeerverlichting zo dicht bij het brugje is geplaatst waardoor er een weinig overbelichting wat echter niets afdoet van de kwaliteit.
Zeer geslaagd experiment.

You are venturing into unchartered territory for you, and the effects are very pleasing. I think its about time you did some night photos, and if they continue at this level, then you should be very happy. All we need now are some jhm photos in B/W :)

Hi John, this is really a very nice picture. You get a perfect reflection on the water, specially of the small bridge, the trees build like an arch with the old town in the background. Well done, thanks for sharing.

Hi John,
Perspective is nice and exposure works well in showing a diversity of colors and a fine reflection. It seems the sky did not look too good so I like the usage of the tree to hide it. I think a wider framing could have worked better here, not cutting the house on the right side. But this is just a detail, the view is great !

Bonjour John
C'est une très bonne tentative de composition nocturne, le crépuscule est un moment très bien choisi.
Le cadrage général est bien effectué.
Sur la partie droite, l'exposition est parfaitement maîtrisée.
Mais il faut se méfier des projecteurs spots trop violents; si la lumière est mesurée sur le spot toute la photo sera sous-exposée.
Le capteur a fait la moyenne au détriment du spot.
Personnellement j'aurais fait une compensation de -1/3.
J'ai essayé de faire une retouche en WS et j'avoue que cela n'a pas été facile.

Beste John, uw nacht- en avondfoto's mogen er zijn! Je weet ook telkens op de juiste plek te gaan staan. Hieraan kunnen we een voorbeeld nemen! Ik bezit nu ook sinds enkele dagen een driepikkel, en denk dat ik die eens ga uittesten in Gent-by-night!

Dag John, het gaat je goed af. Het was nog niet helemaal donker, maar deze is iets scherper als de vorige. Mooi gedaan. Afgaande op het lichtverschil tussen beide, kunnen we er nog verwachten zeker?

I love details here, especially two charming lanterns just above the water and reflexes in the windows and on the surface.

Ik denk dat deze nog mooier dan de erste foto is omdat het noog niet complet donker is,-prachtige capture van de "blue hour"
Uitstekende compositie met mooi lijnenspeel en prachtige reflecties.

J'espère que ta bicyclette est munie de la lumière réglementaire pour circuler la nuit, car j'espère que tu continuera à nous offrir des imagfes de cette valeur.
Tout est bien ici à l'exception de la lumière que tu as bien fait de retirer par clonage dans le WS; c'est cette m^me lumière qui aide à rendre l'aspect des facades doucement éclairé et de facon homogène.
Excellent choix de ce canal.

Bonjour John,
Une superbe vue de cette vieille ville, pleine de vieilles pierres, autant de sujets à photographier. On peut le faire d'une manière banale, ou alors d'une manière originale, comme tu l'as fait avec cet éclairage.
Excellent niveau de détails et jolies couleurs.

Hi John,
The light of this picture is excellent and colours as well. I like its framing too -- the wall in the left and houses in the right. I find an interesting repetition around the bridge -- the bridge's arch first and another arch made by the trees above the bridge. Very well done!

Wow, a fabulous light setting captured in this one, John. The illumination on the ivy-covered bridge sure is the most special detail, but overall the diagonal perspective with great detail present in the old architecture is really well presented. I'm not sure I would categorize it a decisive moment, but it sure is a marvelous photo.

Een zeer geslaagde foto van een wondermooie plaats. Het licht is uitzonderlijk mooi. De weerspiegeling van de brug en de huizen in het reiewater maken hiervan een meesterwerk. Proficiat.

This is very good John, the reflection and the building on the right are very nice, the framing is excellent and the view in the back with the other colorful buildings is excellent. Finally the workshop made by Saïd is excellent, particularly on the spot and bridge, well done.

Hi John,
The artificial lighting gives a nice glow to the bridge, although it's a little on the bright side, stopping down 1/3-1/2 could have been good. The reflections are nice, and there is lots of interesting archictecture here. Seems like your tripod isn't 100% steady though. Maybe you could try using a timer or remote so you don't have to touch the camera while it's taking the picture.

Goeieavond John,
Het eerste woord dat in me opkwam toen ik deze foto zag, was sprookjesachtig! Dat komt waarschijnlijk vooral door de verlichting van de brug en de huizen op de achtergrond, erg mooi gedaan!

A beautiful composition, John, with a perfect reflection. The lighting is also excellent - especially on the bridge. My favourite part of the photo is the little door / window, just above the water line, with the 'street' lanterns on either side. Well seen and framed.

Inderdaad een top-foto John, een prachtig lichtspel bij valavond, het gouden uur, wat een klaarte en sherpte, dat is wonderlijk hoe je dit voor elkaar krijgt, steeds weer met een mooie balance van kleuren, ik denk dat ik van je postprocessing nog heel wat kan leren hoe je dit doet en met welke tools.

This is something very different, a great shot ! The lightened bridge of course, but also the the city we see in a very small part.

Grappig effect, alle lijnen lijken te lopen naar het "rondje" (de brug met reflectie), de mooie lichtval op de brug+reflectie trekt nog meer de aandacht.
De blauwe reflectie in de ramen geven de foto wat poetisch haast.
Echt een prachtig plaatje weer.

nice view of Brugge. My wife and i want to visit Brugge, maybe it will be on may 2006. It seems to be a very nice and quiet place. For your beginning of night photography, you did it well. The best moment is "from till to dusk", you get a blue sky, and so many details.
A nice compo, with "your typical perspective", and a nice reflection. A good exposure.

Je viens de découvrir cette photo. Elle est une des plus belles parmi les meilleures. Le point de vue permet de voir à travers le feuillage des clochers qui se reflètent sour le reflet du pont. Le tout dans un équilibre parfait. Merci.
