Photographer’s Note

I want this picture tribute to didi (Saïd) for its advice by night photography. I have a serie from it picturesque Bruges made by night. I'm with a experment busy, I expect comment on these first really photo.
In the background the Church or Lady.

Very interesting effect of the artificial light, an image taken here during the day wouldn't look as good. A great Bruges postcard, it's very nicely composed. I think an aperture of 8 would have increased the sharpness on the right.

Bonjour John,

So many beautiful colors, I like the view, but what happens to the sky near the tower ? is it the compression ?

Dit is een prachtig nachtshot. Zeer mooie kleuren, goede scherpte en goede compositie. Zeker een van de betere Brugge-shots die ik al gezien heb!

A pretty atmoshpere, John, it's really sharp too and the colours are nice.
The church should give a total reflection though, but nice try !

Goeie nachtfoto van de Brugse reien. Voor mij, zeer goed van licht, kleur, weerspiegeling, scherptediepte, kadrering.......mooi werk John.

8/12/2004 is the last time I had seen a night shot from you, so in TE 's time its quite a century :))) Is it you going to bed early in winter and spring and that summer's coming you live at night ? :))))
This town canal is nice place and you have there a good light on the facades, you also catch two beautiful reflection.
This is a good photo, may be a little problem to corect some kind of posterization in the sky around the church, but quite nothing.

Hee, wat een goed experiment! U deed toch ook een cursus avondfotografie (als ik het me goed herinneren). Samen met de adviezen van Said/Diddi heeft u een prachtig plaatje geschoten.

Ondanks dat het donker is, zijn de kleuren kraakhelder. Mooie reflectie en daar als het groen een gezellige sfeer.

Hi John, A beautiful shot of the evening scene. You have well used the lighting in the environment. The well lighted tower and the well lighted foreground house make nice contrast to the night sky. The reflections are outstanding. Well done.

Hi John. A nice night photo from Brugge, with a fine perspective towards the illuminated church, and delightful foreground details - the retired boats on the canal, and the illuminated ivy-covered buildings. Good exposure to convey the atmosphere, and a nice inclusion of the reflection.

I shoud try my 350D by night one of those days, John! Here, i like very much your composition with the Chruch in the background and the boats in the foreground which are making with the houses a very nice perspective. The colors are very well exposed. Bravo!

Il y a une excellente gestion de la lumière et des couleurs qui nous montre une parfaite maitrise de cette photo de nuit.
En plus, le sujet est intéressant car nous pouvons admirer le clocher, la belle façade et les reflets dans l'eau.

Ik hou er wel van als iemand iets nieuws doet. Night shots niet gemakkelijk. Ik wil me er ook nog eens in gaan verdiepen. Ik vind dat U het erg goed hebt gedaan, U heeft hier te maken met verschillende soorten licht en dat is goed te zien,goede compositie. Ik denk wel dat U dit resultaat nog zult verbeteren, want het kan beter, dat weet ik zeker. Goed werk John.

Het lukt blijkbaar al heel goed, die nightshots! Proficiat met deze eerste, hij heel mooi. Mooi samengesteld en goede kleuren, reflectie en scherpte en dat is het moeilijke bij nachtfoto's. Heel knap gedaan.

What an excellent night shot John. The colors are beautiful, especially the lit trees. The perspective is, once again, excellent. The tower, so nicely lit, offers an excellent object at the end of the perspective, at the focal point. And this water really is just like glass. It has no apparent imperfections and reflects like a perfectly polished mirror. Excellent exposure and composition.

Bonjour John
Effectivement c'est fascinant de photographier de nuit.
La composition est très intéressante, mais d'où provient la lumière du puissant projecteur qui éclaire la façade de l'hôtel ?
Je vais donner un avis sincère:
Pour les photos de nuit, j'effectue toujours une série d'expositions en manuel ou en mode AV en utilisant des paliers de -1/3 et -2/3 par rapport aux paramètres indiqués. Il ne faut pas oublier que le pourcentage des parties sombres sont élevées, cela incite la cellule à surexposer.
L'écran LCD du 300D ne permet pas d'évaluer correctement le résultat, c'est pour cette raison que je prends certaines précautions.

Prachtige nachtfoto! Vooral de verlichte gevels zijn erg mooi in contrast met de donkere rechterhelft. De reflexie van de warm gekleurde kerktoren mag er ook zijn, erg goed werk! :-D

A beautiful and sharp night perspective with the eye effectively led by the canal to the belfry, I like too here the opposing lights, white in the house and much warmer on the belfry.

A perfect night shot. No light "bleeding" and good sharpness.
The best part of this picture is that you are able to balance the exposure time between the near building and the Buges. Both places have the sufficient lights that produces such harmonise combination.
