Saturday afternoon I was together with my wife in Bruges, happy a little bit better weather than the previous days, but a lot to cold 12° Celsius this end of May.
After my knee surgery, I first take a stroll through the city, I took these picture on one of the much small squares in Bruges.
A lot tourists that brought a visit to Bruges shall these place recognize.
A very pleasant square with a nice terrace for drinking a good glass Bruges beer "Brugse Zot" or a "Straffe Hendrik", not to much please!
In background see you the Church tower, also a lot people on the terrace.
I hope that you enjoy of these picture of Bruges.
In the 19th century the square was to be characterized by the presence of tanneries and blue dyers. It is now on the tourist trail of the” Begijnhof” through the Memling Museum at the “Groeningemuseum” and the Burg. It is a busy tourist transit and stopping. The trees, which also largely determine the character of the place, were only planted in 1903. In 1982 the Walplein redeveloped and was a bronze sculpture of the West Flemish artist “Jef Claerhout” placed.
On the square and near have always, and this since the 16th century, breweries stood at least. On today one finds the only active brewery in the town of: Brewery 'De Halve Maan' was founded in 1856 and is now run by the sixth generation of the founder family. Nowadays there are beers brewed in Bruges Zot and Tall Hendrik.
The church 'Le Maire' is also located at the Walplein. It was founded in 1910 in a converted 17th-century warehouse, which were on the garden side also some houses and a small chapel built.

I like very much how you've composed this picture handling the characteristics of the place and its richness in details so effectively. We get a thorough impression of the scenery and the terrace at first sight but there are also a lot of small and minute details to discover little by little. There's superb sense of depth and the colours are very beautiful. Congratulations and thank you! I hope your knee is getting better by the day.
All the best, have a great week,

Bonjour, cher ami John,
Une éclaircie et les rues s’animent d'une bien jolie façon.
Les vélos sont au repos et les propriétaires se sustentent et se désaltèrent, tout cela sous le regard des vieilles maisons et édifices.
Une jolie rencontre.

I remember this beautiful square quite well from my last year trip to Bruges. Unfortunately, this was a rainy and cold day so we had no opportunity to relax and enjoy with such a charming views like you have captured. Excellent image taken with a superb composition and very good quality. TFS.
jacquest (18927) 2013-05-27 3:47
I once drank a beer in Bruges (that's all the time I had for) and it was something like 90 fahrenheit. That was in 1984. Maybe this is the place, I can't remember. Nice presentation on this animated place where people seem to enjoy the sun. Nice architecture all around and an image of quality.
cornejo (39351) 2013-05-27 4:11

I remember very well the images of this wonderful place from previous posts.
This is a charming image with a cheery atmosphere – despite the cold temperatures! A very well composed impression with very beautiful and harmonious colors and a fantastic light. My compliments also for the nice note!
pierrefonds (63330) 2013-05-27 4:49
The presence of the people is giving life to the scene. The point of view is showing the details and colours of the architecture of the houses, of the buildings and of the bell tower. The good luminosity is bringing out the colours. Have a nice day.
Romano46 (18472) 2013-05-27 5:01

Indeed one of the nice spots in Bruges and an ideal place to take a rest and enjoy a good beer. Nice shot; I like the framing with the church that brigdes the trees left and the houses on the right.
tyro (23590) 2013-05-27 8:37
I hope that your knee is recovering well after your surgery. As a retired surgeon, I can tell you that a glass of fine Bruges beer will do much to help your recovery - but not too many of them!
It is still terribly cold for this time of year but you still have some lovely bright sunshine in Bruges and it has really lit up this scene beautifully. This area looks quite busy so I hope you found somewhere to sit down to enjoy your beer!
The buildings are bathed in lovely bright light and your picture is perfectly composed. Nice also to see the fresh spring foliage on those trees in the square.
Lovely light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
fabbs99 (17129) 2013-05-27 8:37
Splendid shot on a overcast day.I like the rows of cycles and the group of tourists enjoying their drinks and food. The architecture of the buildings around create a unique ambiance.TFS.
Noel_Byrne (29183) 2013-05-27 8:40
I really love the texture of the brickwork that you have captured here, in particular that building on the right hand side. The steeple is another beautiful focal point, and the whole thing is balanced by the natural greens of the trees. What a cool place to stop for a coffee!
All the best

danos (94242) 2013-05-27 11:33
nice the view as the presentation of this section of the city with the specific buildings and the bell tower in the backdrop to dominating the image.
The people sitting and dringing their coffee of their dring make the image even more effective.
PaulVDV (26682) 2013-05-27 13:18
Vele groeten, Paul

Reminds me a little of China with all those bicycles at left. Nice spot for al fresco dining in the Spring sunshine, with superb color, sharpness and saturation. Good density and light contrasts with the superb backdrop of the distinctively shaped stepped rooftop. Tfs!
clic (16622) 2013-05-29 6:40
I see a superb plaza, so colourful, featuring the "L-shaped" alignment of historic buildings wich visual mass is judiciously balanced by the view of green leaves.
The thirsty crowd adds much "spirit" to this lovely spring scenery.
eldancer1 (35501) 2013-05-29 7:10

I see people are still wearing coats, this time we have better weather here in Finland. But the sun shines brightly and architecture of this old city is just magnificient.
mkamionka (34609) 2013-05-29 11:54
lovely square, people enjoying the view, the weather and their drinks -it all makes a nice foreground here. The architecture is so pretty and the church tower adds a unique character to the scene.
Bruges is definitely on the top of the towns I would like to visit in the future.
Thanks for sharing it.
I hope your knee is better so that you can enjoy more photographic walks.

HI John, bonjour,
Nice details and point of view,
I like the architecture and the daily life scene in Bruges (Belgique)of the small squares..,
Nice tone of colors and light,
A lot of people on the terrace at 12 celcius !!
Nicely taken and done.
Urs (14082) 2013-05-29 17:10
No traffic except bicycles, that must be a very relaxing square and there also is nice outdoor restaurant, where you can sit in the sun and warm up after the long and cold winter surrounded by well restored patrician houses from the Middle Age. Good light management and high sharpness with vibrant colour hues. Well done

I don't think I've ever seen a picture of Bruges that I haven't liked, and this is certainly no exception...it's charming and beautiful! I love the rustic colors of the brick buildings as they're set against the green from the trees. A quaint square with a lot of character and a relaxing atmosphere. The detail is very sharp as always, and you definitely know how to get the most out of the composition. A city that has long since been on my list to visit, and seeing this just adds to the desire. :) Thanks for sharing this corner of town. Have a great day ahead.
kato (11630) 2013-05-30 19:58
You're captiring this place by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the city which it has left deeply a medieval atmosphere. It's tasteful and beautiful for a row of buildings with red roof and church with tall tower. And, it's impressive in the spectacle that many residents are enjoying peacefulness to the courtyard of the restaurant.
jemaflor (93239) 2013-05-31 1:34

Buin (42420) 2013-06-02 1:11
What an inviting place, what a colourful and cozy atmosphere! Sitting there with a drink must be real fun and somehow inspiring. You show it from an perfect angle and I like how all these beautiful facades and gables lead the eyes to the steeple in background.
It's a pity that you cut off the gable in front.
By the way - thank you for the excellent note! You can wonderfully feel how you like the visits in this magnificent town.
Greetings from still cool and cloudy Westphalia!
Have a nice Sunday!

A nice everyday scene from Bruges. It's been a long time since I was last in Bruges - in fact I was in my twenties! I ate a lot of chocolate whilst I was there but now I would drink the beer!

A fabulous composition with this beautiful corner of this wonderful city, I love the POV with the presence of all these people on the terrace of coffee, a nice touch that gives life to the composition, splendid facades line the sensational tower in the background.
Great management of both the luminosity and the optimum sharpness.

Nice picture from Bruges, this time a bit different view without the canals. The small square with people sitting in the cafe makes attractive viewing with the brick buildings as the background. Light was not the best but you did well

all the best always
drt100 (2095) 2013-06-24 1:31
I have this same shot, but I did not sharpen the image as much. I like a softer look to the tree leaves, more soft than you have here. You are giving a grain-like look and this seems to over pixels the faces making them look textured. drt100
