A few yards from my previous photo, there is the Hendrik Conscienceplein (Square of Hendrik Conscience), where we find the Carolus Borromeuskerk (Church of St. Charles Borromeo) and the Erfgoedbibliotheek Hendrik Conscience (Heritage Library Hendrik Conscience, former City Library). In this photo you see the library and the statue of Hendrik Conscience.
Hendrik Conscience (1812-1883) was a Belgian romantic novelist who dominated the birth and development of the Flemish novel. His father was French, his mother Flemish. Conscience took part in the uprising of July 1830, which resulted in the independence of Belgium. His book De Leeuw van Vlaanderen (The Lion of Flanders) is considered a masterpiece of Flemish literature. (More info: Wikipedia.)

A alguns metros da minha foto anterior, encontra-se a Hendrik Conscienceplein (Praça de Hendrik Conscience), onde se localiza a Carolus Borromeuskerk (Igreja de São Carlos Borromeu) e a Erfgoedbibliotheek Hendrik Conscience (Biblioteca Património Hendrik Conscience, antiga Biblioteca da Cidade). Nesta foto vê-se a biblioteca e a estátua de Hendrik Conscience.
Hendrik Conscience (1812-1883) foi um escritor romântico belga que dominou o nascimento e o desenvolvimento da novela flamenga. Seu pai era francês, sua mãe flamenga. Conscience tomou parte na Revolução de Julho de 1830, a qual resultou na independência da Bélgica.
