Photo prise lors de la visite du Mémorial du Mardasson représentant l’hommage du peuple belge à la nation américaine. Bastogne fut choisie pour ériger ce mémorial du souvenir, parce que l’effort américain y fut le plus décisif durant la seconde guerre mondiale. Le 4 juillet 1946, là où allait se trouver le point central du Mémorial, un peu de terre était prélevée et déposée dans un coffret, scellé en présence de l’ambassadeur des USA et expédié par avion spécial vers Washington. C’est au-dessus de ce point central que se trouve la dalle portant l'inscription: LIBERATORIBUS AMERICANIS POPULUS BELGICUS MEMOR (Le peuple belge se souvient de ses libérateurs américains).

On July 4, 1946, where the central point of the Memorial was going to be, a little ground was taken and deposited in a box, sealed in the presence of the ambassador of the USA and dispatched by special plane towards Washington. It is above this central point that the stoneslab is, carrying the inscription: LIBERATORIBUS AMERICANIS POPULUS BELGICUS MEMOR (The Belgian people remember his American liberators).
