The General Anthony McAuliffe answered by this short message: "To attention of the German commander: Nuts! The amercian commander.". Two American divisions of Bastogne pushed back all the German attacks till December 26, dates to which a column of IIIe armed with Patton succeeds in breaking city surrounding. To date from December 26, 1944, the German counter-offensive was transformed into retirement.
