‘Liège - A night at the station’
Some people prefer a night at the opera, others a night at the station :)
In late December and early January the weather in Belgium was very dreary and rainy. During daytime there were no good occasions to take beautiful pictures of this splendid railway station. Certainly not as beautiful as you can see on other photos posted by other member during sunnier periods.
But in winter the night falls early and as soon as it was dark I could photograph this wonderful project of Calatrava in all its splendor.
This is my second picture of the railway station of Liège-Guillemins designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. It was officially opened on September 18, 2009.
It has 9 tracks and 5 platforms (three of 450 m and two of 350 m). The station is made of steel, glass and white concrete. It includes a monumental arch, 160 metres long and 32 metres high.

J'aime bien les deux! Très bonne photo nocturne de la gare de Liège devenue star sur TE. Ta composition est remarquable, exploitant à la fois le graphisme du lieu, les trains éclairés et la vision nocturne de la ville.Une photo de grande qualité.
Amicalement.

Hello Paul,
magnificent night composition!I like this strong contrast between so nicely illuminated foreground(steel and glass are superb subjects for a night photography)and the city in the distance, which despite the night still looks very lively.Brilliant image in excellent quality.
Have a nice day

Good Morning Paul,
The weather has been grey and uninteresting for quite a while in many regions of Europe. However, you have been very inventive and taken a most interesting night shot.
Your viewpoint was well chosen giving the opportunity to capture the wonderful arches of the station, the horizontal layers of the trains and the enticing lights of the city beyond. Well done.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Bonjour Paul,
J'aime beaucoup ces structures qui ressemblent à de grandes vagues. Ici , la vue vers l'extérieur de la gare est superbe et bien dégagée et donne de très belles teintes.

Paul - great use of lines here; the railing at top complements the curving lines of the ceiling well, and mimics the trains themselves. There's almost the effect of a curtain rising here. The light is really nicely managed, with the bright interior not dwarfing or overcoming the village beyond with its soft colors. Nicely done!

Dag Paul,
Goed foto werk, bedankt.
Prettig weekend, liefst zonder sneeuw.

Hello Paul,
Old town Liege view through the iron structure, and the trains on tracks added an extra strait-lines frame to the arched dome.
A fine light management, under shining white strong led illumination.
Super modern stations and bridges made up by Calatrava style-design throughout the world, each is different.

Hi Paul!
And it seems you got a very good night shot here! The pov is just great to show the station, the trains and also the illuminated square in background. I like the graphism and even the presence of the man there, waiting for the train.

A fabulous composition, which combines the modern and beautiful modern structure of the station, with trains on the midplane and the wonderful image of the city, the narrow view through deck line, a stunning combination of elements, all very beautiful and give a masterful job.

Hi Paul, it partially reminds me of Oriente train station in Lisbon. I liked the unusual way of framing here in which graphism dominates the top half and the daily life goes on at the bottom of the composition. Congratulations.

Hello,
interesting idea for a photo and well executed. The chosen POV gives impression of someone watching the scene from above and contributes very much to the unique atmosphere in here. Very good light and colors management.
Well done and thanks for sharing!

Hi Paul,
I like the warm vs cold colour contrast between the blue grey fg architecture & the bg city lights with a yellow red tint. Good sharpness & graphics. The solitary person at left adds scale. A superb wide angled shot of the station. Tfs!

Dag Paul,
Vele groeten,
Christian

We have been treated with pictures of this Calatrava created station from all conceivable photographic angle! Yet, I find this original, as I cannot remember a picture in which the platforms & indeed the trains are seen in the station. It definitely helps me as a viewer, understand the whole perspective of the amazing work of art & also the 'practical purpose' it serves. Lovely exposure & crisp details makes this a delight!
Best Regards

Hi Paul
This is a very eye pleasing shot in superlative in door light as the viewer being led to focus straight to the achitectural details and its delicacy. It's smartly composed with the contrasty warm tones in the distance to anchor the eye, and there's with great sense of depth and space too in natural colors. Lots of positives here, indeed a wonderful display of interior that looks so appealing with your exquisite work. Flawless capture, well done. Congrats
Kind regards
