Photographer’s Note
Windmill wings make a hissing sound when passing by.
The South Abbey Mill sits high on a dune close to Belgium's coastline.
The mill, together with another mill, was part of a flourishing abbey complex constructed in the 13th century. The iconoclastic fury of 1566 and the Eighty Year's War (1568-1648) signalled the end for the abbey mills. The monks finally moved away and resettled in Bruges in 1627. The mill mounds remained behind as witnesses.
In 1951 the municipality of Koksijde purchased the Lootvoet Mill in Houtem (dated 1773) to bring the site back to life. It is an open post corn mill with three floors. The mill is one of only eight mills of this type still in existence.
A permanent miller ensures the functioning of the mill whenever the windspeed reaches 4 Beaufort at least. About 150 kg of grain can be processed hourly. The height of the mill is 14 meters and each sail arm has a span of 12 meters and weighs one ton. On average the mill has 180 000 axle revolutions per year.

Bonsoir Paul
déjà une très bonne idée d'associer un élément mobile et un élément statique mais ce que j'apprécie surtout ici c'est la réalisation exactement au bon endroit et à la bonne vitesse
Bien joué!

Hello Paul
Like a lot this image...something very different from the standard windmill shots. Your POV, just below the rotating blades, the title & note made me feel that I was hearing the same swishing noise as well! The colours of the blades are very attractive & makes this picture even better IMO. But this is a wonderful photo & very underrated

A very clever angle - the motion is looking fast and dangerous - i think my eye is at risk just looking at it!

Hello Paul,
It is a pleasure to see windmills photos on TE, especially the ones of Floydian and Carper who are masters in this subject.
I like a lot the work you performed here with the blur of movement on the wings.
To increase even more the effect and so the time exposure you would have to use Neutral Grey filter. It is a pity they are so expensive...
Yves.

Paul,
Definitely eye-catching - and great at full size. It's rather a treat to see some motion in these mills, used as we are to seeing such a static representation.
Nice idea - well realised.
Cheers

heh, i hear, this does not happen frequently to the modern-day dutch mills. a nice moment impression. it surely looks more engaging than most of the dutch-mill photos on TE. unfortunately, the best ones are gone now from TE.

Bonjour Paul,
une des photos de moulins la plus originale que j'ai vu sur TE. Couleurs et mouvement, un dynamisme terrible, et un cadrage très précis, autant que le moment de prise de vue.
Amicalement.

As composition isn’t as well I would like to be, but the idea of catching the movement of the windmill wings is an A+.

Hello, Paul!
Very good idea to show the dynamics of this scene by selecting time exposure long enough, to make the wings "flying" :). It really makes this shot interesting.

Hi Paul,
TE is full of photos of windmills, also because some 40,000 points members have shown us in every possible manner... This one of yours is the most original that I've seen and, thanks to the bright colors, it is also much more fresh and cheerful than usual windmills. Great idea very well accomplished. Ciao, Dario.
