Photographer’s Note
A picture taken yesterday afternoon during my bike cycle trip, I find this old castle very beautiful, I have had the control at the restoration work in years 1960, this is work where one can put in much energy.
History;
By far the most important person in the history of Male, is Louis of Male (born 1329). He was the son of Louis of Nevers and Margareta of France and became the 24th count of Flanders. His daughter, Margaretha, married Philips, the duke of Burgundy. Due to this fact, Flanders became a part of duchy of Burgundy. During this period the castle retained its importance. During the Spanish occupation, the citadel got somewhat forgotten and was sold in 1558 by Philips II to knight Juan Lopez Gallo. Two years later, he was appointed baron by Philips II. The castle is thoroughly restored and has become a women's convent (abbey) since 1954 en 1969.
This picture I have cropped to a better composition, the colours are really.
I hpoe you like it.

Bonjour John,
Daniel.

Bricks looks so nice against blue sky as well as their reflections in the calm water. Beautiful place and beautiful picture!

Groeten,
Luc.

Nice amount of details and good like.
Nice shadows of the tree on the brickwall.
The left wall does not give much to the picture.
I would prefer to have the full bridge on the right.

Great architecture, in this excellent quality shot. I like very much the shadows, I would say they are clean shadows (from the trees)like when you choose a reflection to have it in the composition.
Very positive light.
Well done

Philippe
Merci pour la note.

Hi John. Very nice view of the old castle that seems to have a personal significance for you with the restauration work you mention. Good framing of this view around the corner, and the special light and the shadows cast by the barren tree silhouettes are what elevates this photo. Beautiful shot.

Bonsoir john.

zeer mooie foto.

Well John, I wish I can take good landscape shots as you. I wish I can learn from you (and Norbert and jaap). One of these days.
Another sterling shot. Wouldn't change a thing.

This is another fantastic shot. The color and lighting are perfect as is the contrast. And it's so crisp and clear. The way you have the trees framing the scene works very well. The moat in addition to that then really brings the eyes in from all directions down to the abbey. Perhaps it could be skewed a bit to correct for the perspective distortion but other than that this is really beautifully done.

Goed werk weer hier!
