I brought a visit to Damme, the church tower could against a small payment become visited, 2 Euro
The climbing of the tower with a narrow stair (almost 200 steps)
On my age a very great performance but everything was excellent.
Above on the tower got I a wonderful panoramic view about the area.
I have different pictures taken and shall later more pictures show.
On these picture you can see the “Schelle” mill, along the canal Bruges - Sluis.
Thank you very much for your visit.
The mill Damme you cannot miss. He stands high above its immediate surroundings next to the Damme canal on one of the most picturesque spots of Damme. This makes it also one of the most photographed mills in the world.
At this place was since the creation of the town already a standard wooden mill, called the Schellemolen. This mill was owned by the Counts of Flanders; in 1267 these rights were Countess Margaret of Constantinople sold to the city. However, half of the proceeds should still be given to the graves.
The current mill was built in 1867 on the site where the wooden mill stood for centuries and remained in use until 1963. In 1971 he was bought by the province of West Flanders and restored in 1975-1977. It is a protected monument since 1975 and since its restoration, run in the summer the blades in the wind. Also note the more minus that on top of the hood is; a reference to the "legend of the mermaid."

Bonjour, cher ami John,
kasianowak (9713) 2014-06-17 0:56
Classic photo from Flanders. I like the L-shaped composition created with the houses and windmill. Red roofs look treat on the green background.
jacquest (18939) 2014-06-17 3:53
I like the downward view on the windmill ans the red roofs. There is a peacefull mood to this composition with the view on the fields. Colors are natural and sharpess is good.
pierrefonds (68871) 2014-06-17 4:16
The distance between the houses in the foreground and the ones in the background is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and the colors of the houses. The good luminosity is bringing out the colours. Have a nice day.
timecapturer (49288) 2014-06-17 4:25
iconic Flanders image this. All the elements are here and look so idyllic and inviting in this beautifully executed and presented image. Superb!

Sergiom (84401) 2014-06-17 5:43

Very attractive and peaceful landscape! I hope to visit Flanders someday too. Marvelous scene, excellent vivid colors combination, perfect technical quality. Oh, yes, it was really great performance with a climbing of the tower indeed. Take care! ;)

Like a beautiful and well composed painting. Very attractive colours and an interesting windmill.
ourania (48740) 2014-06-17 9:14
this is a lovely view from above, I like how we can have a close and detailed view of the buildings in the foreground while the background is deep, delightful and interesting as well. It's intriguing to see the mill with no sky as backdrop, only a thorough view of the surrounding landscape. The colours are vivid and lovely, the whole frame exudes an agreeable warmth. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
eldancer1 (36343) 2014-06-17 10:01
Beautiful landscape and it look so peaceful! I wouldn't mind living in this kind of place. And I like those types of windmills instead of the sterile and ugly ones that are dominating the desert landscape of Southern Nevada. Good lighting and nice details. Well done, tfs.
carlo62 (52050) 2014-06-17 10:33

A beautiful and very picturesque scene, the mill being such a strong point and perfectly composed in the scene. The red roods of the houses are very striking against the vivid greens. Beautiful place,
thanks for sharing
All the best

Vele groeten, Paul

very nice landscape with old windmill there. Good POV, composition and pleasant spring colors. Interesting informations. Solid photo-work.
Have a nice evening.
abmdsudi (56302) 2014-06-17 16:08
it's wonderful how effective you have placed the eyecatching windmill to rest the eye there, then progressively leads viewers into the whole scene. A well captured green farmland stretching the view deep into the horizon offering such depth and perspective blended with lot of interest. The brown and white split the colours superbly. Clarity is fine and pleasantly exposed throughout lending a pleasing image. Well done shot, Congrats
jcpix (13930) 2014-06-17 19:46
I admire your everlasting zest to obtain just the right point of view, even if it means climbing so many stairs. :) This is a great elevated perspective which shows us in detail the lay of the land, the natural colors and a nice focal point of the windmill within this frame. Certainly worth the climb and small fee to get this shot, and as usual, it comes with a wonderful result through your lens. Enjoy the new day. All the best.
Nice win by your countrymen today, a fun and spirited comeback.
Alco (7511) 2014-06-17 21:20

Bijzonder mooi, John, zo'n overzicht !
holmertz (56143) 2014-06-18 2:31
A very pleasant view of the differently designed villas and the windmill in the foreground with the vast fields behind. I like the contrasts of red and green and the pattern created by the many fields of different colours and sizes.
ikeharel (74745) 2014-06-18 7:52
What a pleasent sight, John, amazing scenery taken from a high point.
The windmill and the lavish green surrounding worth the effort climbing and 2 Euros paid.
Favorable daylight brought an excelent contrast with the red roof-tops.
Cheers for the climb and well done photojob.
danos (100830) 2014-06-18 9:39
very nice the panoramic viewof the picturesque place from the church tower. The windmill is the eye catchinng of the scene, with the red roof tiles of the foreground houses,to create a perfect contrast in the image.
rychem (39397) 2014-06-18 21:08
The view is impressive indeed, excellent work, fantastic clarity and depth, compliments
mirosu (16273) 2014-06-18 23:52
You've captured this scene very well by a good composition and bright tone, so it's interesting and impressive to see white windmill with elegant shape. The whole is harmonized well by beautiful color and light balance. And, the red roofed houses in foreground draw out an additional good atmosphere, too.
Very well done.

clic (17605) 2014-06-19 15:33
Seen from a paraglider point of view, this is the best picture of a windmill I ever saw in my life, because it shows the iconic monument of Damme 'in full glory', standing amid its natural green environment.
Quite different of the usual views of windmills showing the sky as backdrop.
Many thanks for this exotic bucolic view and to your good health for having climbed so high in the steeple!
Dank u wel, het ga u best.

its a beauty. Its super clear and sharp, and lots of fine details. Love the way the colors blend , tbe greens are so beautiful. Of course the windmill helps too :)
wolf38 (31296) 2014-06-20 9:55
Hi John. A windmill is always an eye-catcher. Windmills were once in, and they are once again in the form of offshore wind turbines in. I like the informative text.
gildasjan (43654) 2014-06-20 10:35
mcmtanyel (25608) 2014-06-20 19:03

red tiled roofs, green fields and an attractive windmill add up to a lovely scene so it seems that the small price of two euro was money well invested to capture such a pretty view.
Colours and clarity are both first rate.
Best regards Les.

Attractive scene with the classical mill dominating, the village lined up in the foreground, then the pastoral background of open fields.
And glad you made it to the church top for this wonderful view.

Hi John. Very attractive countryside this time of the year when the grass is green and sunshine plentiful. Lovely POV of a land which is still kept in a productive state.Glad you did climb the 200 steps as the scenery is special.Best wishes. Klaudio.

This photo was worth the effort of climbing the steeple. All the different greens in the landscape and the red roof provide a beautiful picture - and the windmill is the "cherry on the cake". Great!
Greetings from warm, sticky and thundery Westphalia!

I have nothing to add!
Just - Like it.
mkamionka (39137) 2014-07-14 7:58
great POV to present this windmill in an interesting context of the fields and village. The weather was not perfect I guess a bit more sun would not harm, but you did a fantastic job in these circumstances.
Angshu (56760) 2014-07-16 5:10
Fine panoramic view indeed you get from the top. I especially like the windmill and the fields behind. The houses in the FG are also attractive. Nice work!
ChrisJ (116676) 2014-07-16 6:28
Missed this one. I like the high pov and superb sharpness and colour saturation. The windmill makes a good focal point. The bg row of trees at top makes an unusual border. Good composition with the neatly manicured chequerboard fields competing with the fg houses. Tfs!

Periko (5920) 2014-08-17 19:18
The red roofs, the windmill and the greenery make a great team. The composition, seen from such a POV is nice.

Beautiful natural photography in this small town and especially this mill ideally placed in the composition.
I love the overall feel of this composition.
Have a nice Sunday
stego (24132) 2014-09-16 15:01
A very nice and accomplished compo, that is a great presentation of that beautiful landscape. After many spending years rarely using long focal lengths, I am rediscovering now the potential of them in some situations; and this looks like one of those cases that probably would be difficult to get a good photo with shorter focal length.
TFS, Regards, José
Selmik (3625) 2014-09-21 20:20
Lovely rural scenery with good depth, details. Peaceful and relaxed, very good sharpness and perspective of the capture. Every small detail is clearly seen.
Very well done!
swapankumarroy (2849) 2014-10-22 21:58
You have perfectly placed this windmill in your frame with a vast green agricultural farm land to make it wonderful composition, very calm and soothing view, I like your POV and well detailing.
with deep regards,

That snap really highlights the Flanders country and its land settlement John
the ancient wind mill still belongs to the landscape as well as farms, fields and hedges
