Photographer’s Note
This lovely palace is standing at Minnewater at Brugge. Incredibel enough it was abandoned when we were there. It has been a restaurant but now there was nothing. What a pitty because it is one of te most beautiful places of Brugge with a great touristique potential.
For most visitors the Minnewater and its lovely park are the entrance to the beautiful city of Bruges. The Minnewater is a canalized lake. From the bridge (1740) one can already enjoy a nice panoramic view over the town. Because of the idyllic surroundings it is mostly referred to as 'the lake of Love', the Dutch word 'Minne' meaning 'love'.
Actually, the origins of the lake are less romantic. It was here that the coastal river 'Reie' entered the city. The river was later canalized and made to continue until the center of town. It is not sure where the name 'Minnewater' comes from. An explanation could be 'water van het gemeen', which could be translated as the 'common water'. The lake was used as a water reservoir, to keep the water of the canals at a constant level. Next to the lake is the Minnewater park, where sometimes in the summertime (rock) concerts are organized
About the photo: the light conditions were not at all perfect. It was round 12 our and the clouds cretae even more harsh light. We did use some stops down and at the PP we highlight the photo.

Ciao Kiks,
unbelievable! It's not possible that such a suggestive building can be abandoned. I hope that this small castle can be restructured soon and open to the public. The photo is very beautiful and pleasant, captured by a good POV that also includes the river. Excellent work, compliment!
Ciao, have a nice week!

Hi Kik,
It's a lovely view, taken from a very good POV. I can see that the light was very challenging, but you cope with it wonderfully, turning it in of the charms of the photo. Maybe you could have left the sky a little brighter, just for the sake of naturality, but I also like it like it is.
It's hard to believe that such place is abandoned. I thought that such things only happened in Portugal. :D

Hi KIKs,
it doesn't look abandoned at all. It's trully a beautiful architecture and there is a nice garden around it. Very good point of view. The image is well balanced in its elements, colors and lights. Great job!

Hi Kik,
Yes light was difficult but it's perfectly managed with a classic and beautiful composition with the branch at top. Nice architecture.

The restaurant looks like it used to be a church. This is a well framed image from across the canal. You say the light was harsh; I think you have managed it very well.

Hallo Kik,
Het is jammer dat dit prachtige gebouw is niet bestemd voor alle activiteiten die kunnen worden bezocht. De plaats is mooi en wat u zegt in uw nota, heel romantisch. Prachtige compositie en details.
Gegroet,
Charo

Bonjour Kiks,
This one is very nice, I like the composition very much of this one, the vertical format accentuate the height of the church tower, and give much depth. The tree frame the image beautifully. Good details, a beautiful spring day image with beautiful light. Thanks

Bonjour Kik.
Comme c'est dommage qu'un tel lieu soit laissé à l'abandon !
La composition et les couleurs sont superbe pour mettre cette demeure en valeur.
Du grand art !
Jacques
