Photographer’s Note

Here my second night picturen of Bruges; may I thank everybody for the comments and help in using my new camera. As well as Belgian as Dutch friends, oochappan, floydian and carper they have my helped me a lot with their advice.
But absolutely thank to my Belgian friend Henk, he has shown how to balance colours and light.
Here you see one of the most beautiful places of Bruges; maybe you can see a small boat in the canal with film crew middle in the picture.

I hope again to get a lot reactions on this picture.

Fantastic colors and beautifull view! Great dof, because there are so many iteresting details, that must seen... It's only one thing bad, and it's about ISO... The noise level is realy high... You could try with linger shutter speed...

Cette image sort vraiment du lot ! Les couleurs et la netteté sont fantastiques !
Le cadrage est superbe. L'eau du canal est si calme qu'on a l'impression d'avoir à faire à un deuxième ciel d'un noir d'encre ! J'aime beaucoup cette image.

I think the shutter speed is 10 second and no 1/10 sec ?! No ?

Le point de vue est excellent. Cette image est déjà une de mes favorite !

Goedemorgen John,

Een heel, heel bekende plek in Brugge, men moet soms daar in de rij staan om te fotograferen, maar U heeft een geweldig beeld hiervan gemaakt met de wide angle en diepe DoF. De boten geven wat perspectief aan. Schitterende spiegelbeelden in het water, en alles is so scherp!!! Perfect, perfect, een van Uw beste fotos, denk ik...

Dag John,
That's the king of view where you appreciate the wide lens to fit all these beautiful buildings in, good PoV and a view that shows superb reflection on the calm water. I see Henk's input has contributed to the quality improvement of your shots as the colors look now fine to me and the buildings stand out well from the darkness. What puzzles me is ISO 1000, Canon cameras have very good noise handling but shooting on a tripod you could reduce ISO and extend exposure to 30 seconds or B without problem.

Hi John,

A good POV of these buildings taken at night. The reflection of the building in the water is an asset to the photo and the lighting is giving a special effect to the colors. The photo has a good composition and nice colors. Thanks for sharing.

Superb. Great viewpoint and wonderful photo, with marvellous light and colour. One of my absolute favourite night shots. Choice of aperture and speed was perfect, I'd say. I love the greenery which you don't often get in this type of photo.

Very nice and crisp night shot with your new equipment, John. The amount of textural details and richness is astonishing, and the exposure is perfect to convey the ambience with the lights and tones. Of course the shooting angle to present this old-town view is pretty nice as well.

décidément aussi séduisante de jour que de nuit cette ville de Bruges n'a vraiment pas fini de nous fasciner.
Avec le beffroi en ligne de mire, un endroit bien choisi où les reflets ajoutent encore une touche d'esthétisme.
Les couleurs sont superbes, bien saturées, un ciel qui ne souffre d'aucune pollution lumineuse.
Un petit chef-d'oeuvre.

Ik zal de 100 punten rond maken ;-)
Deze nachtscene is al een flink stuk beter dan je vorige, vooral kwa detailering en compositie. Maar de hemel is nog steeds pikzwart, die moet echt iets kleur hebben.
Tenminste........dat vind ik, maar wie zegt dat ik de wijsheid in pacht heb he ;-))))
Je bent in ieder geval uitstekend bezig met je 5D en 16/35.
Fotograferen zal moeilijker worden, maar de resultaten beter en beter...!!!

Great nightshot, lovely colours and details. The reflections work nice and the composition is brilliant I think.
The rest is mentioned above, so I stay short on that.

Only, which is weird, maybe the problem is with me (NL : als broekie/amateur) I think the trees are quite blocky, the left ones, but also the ones in the distance. Doesn't seem to natural..but am I the only one seeing this?

While I was browsing through your photo gallery, and even allowing my wife to see the wonders I was beholding, this one came up -- shot on 3 July 2006. This is one of the most beautiful night shots I've seen anywhere, and my wife agreed. The composition and perspective are exquisite, the colors and sharpness flawless!
