A classic where i try to show the feelings I have when by the sea... I just love it so much, I was born along its shores, although much more further south... and I become like a little girl again every time I visit it...she reminds me of the blessed hours of my infancy. Everything fascinates me, I can watch it for hours...the nurturing sea, that we pollute and neglect so much. Soon it might be too late...

°°°

For the most part, the North Sea lies on the European continental shelf. The only exception is a narrow area of the northern North Sea off Norway. The North Sea is bounded by Great Britain to the west and the northern and central European mainland to the east and south, including Norway, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France.

In the south-west, the North Sea becomes the English Channel beyond the Straits of Dover. In the east, it connects to the Baltic Sea via the Skagerrak and Kattegat. In the north, it opens in a widening funnel shape to the Norwegian Sea, which lies in the very north-eastern part of the Atlantic.

Apart from the obvious boundaries formed by the coasts of the countries which border it, the North Sea is generally considered to be bounded by an imaginary line from Lindesnes, Norway to Hanstholm, Denmark running towards the Skagerrak. Traditionally, an imaginary line is taken to run from northern Scotland, by way of Shetland, to Ålesund in Norway. According to the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the North-East Atlantic of 1962 it runs further to the west and north from longitude 5° West and latitude 62° North, at the latitude of Geirangerfjord in Norway.

The surface area of the North Sea is approx. 575,000 square kilometers.

Fantastic capture with such a wonderful scene, beautiful colours and textures and a great moment. I love the setting and the way you achieved what you have created. good job indeed.

Salut Michèle,
Très bon contre-jour. Il y a le contraste qu'il fallait pour donner cette bonne scène bien saisie avec la fille et le vol de l'oiseau.
Amicalement,
Fabrice

Hi Michele,
a nice scene with feelings coming up :) the little girl and the bird seem to communicate..
Good one, Christian

hello Michèle,
I like a lot the idea from your note that we all are connected by the seas :) there must have been a moment when we both were looking at the same and yet different sea, don't you think?
beautiful photo, elegant, calm, and a little melancholic, I think that's how I've always thought about the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, as opposed to the vibrant energy of the Mediterranean, for example. I like a lot how the water looks like liquid silver, and the perfect shape of the bird is the most excellent accent. excellent work, my compliments.

with kind regards,
Kristine

Salut Michele,

Jordi

Hello Michele,
Romantic, that's what i call it...only can be brought to us by a real woman ;-)
Wish the bird was more to the right for a better balance, but that's almost wishfull thinking with animals. But the mood is great, warm soft toning and the small waves are rolling in over the sand. That dark part in the left corner is superb, it brings contrast and deeper toning to the image, i like that part a lot.
Regards, Henk

Lovely tones and mood here. Simple many times is best.
cheers,
CT

Smart composition with two strong elements.
Superb atmosphere shown.
Regards.

Bonsoir!

Hello Michele. Postcard from the sea. This message arrives good with me, since I will have soon few days a vacation on an island. The light is very beautiful. And the flying bird is fantastic. Very beautifully. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hi Michèle,
I like your seaside pictures very much and this is certainly no exception. Your emotional engagement in these situations is very palpable. There’s something magical about this, as though the girl is able to talk to the seagull or perhaps the seagull has a message to bring. I particularly like the diagonal line of the breaking waves and the golden light that bathes everything and glistens on the surface of the water.
Very poetic indeed.
John

Hello Michele
Memoirs of a little girl...could have been the title to this picture. Delightful shot with the silhouette of the little girl...in fact the gull adds so much to the picture. Like the tones of this picture & the dark patch of the sand in the FG. The silver of the foam as the waves just caress the beach...the mood is romantic, nostalgic & mellow. Superb Michele!
Best Regards
Angshuman

i am in Kos Greece for a congress for the last few days and i ve been taking similar shots... but after seing this one i felt like getting rid of them all... so poetic michele... amazing golden touch...

all the best

Hello Michele, a very passionate image I can see...

And one, for me, far too difficult to critique. It is like a dream.. child or adult walking the wave-swept never static swash-line... with a wandering seagull the ever friend. A magical moment for you, and all of us no less :)

Very special, subtle, and spectacular all in one.

Love it.. Casper

Hello Michele

Poetry and emotion...
Wish to live more closer to the sea...our sea...unfortunately I live on the other part of the country...opposite corner.

As you said...a classic...remembering the old days.
Enjoy it...embrace it...the view...the smell...the connection you have with this place..."fly like a bird above the sea"...sit on his shores...disconnect yourself from the regular daily life...his rush........

You have catch a nice moody atmosphere, the little girl(this is you when you were a child?...:-D) and the flying bird...nice...

My kind regards

Hi Michele
very nice composition with well placed silhouettes with beautiful reflections. Excellent sharpness and light well managed
TFS and greetings

hello michele

a nice foto-essay connecting us all by the seas (and the air). and a nice tribut to belgian shores (funny, i was reading about ceasar's belgian campaing just a moment ago and the little girl's silhouette looks just like i would imagine a belgian 'barbarian' kid playing on these shores two millenia ago). as henk duly noted, very romantic scenery. thanks for sharing this moment with us, michele.

with warm regards,
kristaps

Excellent shot in almost monochrome, only the extreme upper part reveals it's a ctually a color picture, the gull is priceless!

Bonjour Michele,
J'avais bien reconnu De Haan, seul endroit de la côte belge pas trop bétonné.
J'adore le ressenti paillettes et alu de ce cliché.
Encore une impression de repos...

Hi Michèle,

I feel your joy and serenity seeing this sea scenery. It feels timeless, like it is within our soul and mind. Beautiful quiet dialog between a girl and a seagull, so rich but without unnessesary words. This capture is emotional outburst. I do not know how you do it, but it strikes with timeless feeling of nostalgia and sea love.

Kind regards,
Jeri

Hi Michele,
Hope you're doing well.Learnt from your intro that you're keeping very busy these days. Its the same with me too..:-(.
However I found some time today to go thru the gallery of my fav. people here in TE. This looks great in sepia. Probaly , you havent worked too much with this classic tone. Looks really well, and gives the feeling of a classic. The silhouetted bird and the kid brings in a unique dimension.
Very well composed shot,
Sagarneel.

Hello Michele,
you brought in a beautiful melancholy feeling here and the way you built up the compo enhances even more this feeling. The calm of the sea and its perpetual motion are so well contrasted by the flying birds with the little figure on the left finishing this great job! Excellent.
Thank you and regards,

Igor
