These picture has been taken one week ago.
The last two weeks we have a severe winter period known, with a lot snow.
This picture was taken in the afternoon when the sun came out.
I try again a nice perspective to form the long row of trees and the canal on the left

Military history on this place 99 years ago.
This channel was a good follow target to the coast, without GPS
The First World War 1914 - 1918

The German troops arrived in our region about Maldegem, Sijsele, Damme to Bruges while the Belgian rearguard consisting of gendarmes and cavalry, drive out for themselves. Belgian gendarmes and cavalry soldiers, the Germans would still have shot from the ramparts of Damme. Then they withdrew in the direction of the Westhoek.
The Germans advanced further to Bruges (15 October 1914), Blankenberge and Zeebrugge. The day before was a great exodus to the Netherlands under way: by tram, with boats on the Damme canal, on foot, on horseback, .... In Sluis (Netherlands) was offered to approximately 15,000 refugees overnight in the town hall, the church, on barges, in erected barracks .. Netherlands was neutral in the war from 1917 to 1918 .. Stayed in Aardenburg than 25,000 Belgians. Throughout early October Zealand would almost half a million refugees are caught. After a short time a large number of Belgians came back home or they traveled on to England.

John, this shot is a great example of creativity both, by the mother nature and your optical vigilance. This is the second winter presentation today, which I welcome with a smile, for it takes me back to my childhood and shows the beauty of the cool season :)

Love the streight line formed between the two rows of tall trees, the canal and another row of trees, all align in an optimal focus point and depth of view.

De foto wint aan originaliteit door je gekozen standpunt en het toevoegen van de ruimte voor de rijen bomen. De takken vooraan zorgen voor een goede voorgrond.
Verder is het uiteraard een bijzonder mooi landschap, prachtig gefotografeerd met de witte sneeuwlaag en onder een zachtblauwe winterlucht.

Hello John,

It would appear that you have had more snow than we have here in Scotland. We had some snow last week but it has all now disappeared and we have strong winds and heavy rain.

This is indeed a wonderful study in perspective! A beautifully composed photograph with strong perspective (aided by your very short focal length of just 16mm), the parallel lines of trees at the right on each side of the pathway being nicely balanced by the other row on the opposite side of the canal.

Lovely soft light, fine colours and stunning details and sharpness.

very nice perspective again! The canals looks best during winter time in my opinion, with frost and blue sky. Fantastic! It is very nice to take picture during such weather conditions, i tried it myself last week when it was very cold in Stockholm. Hello John - the passageway formed here seems to go on forever, and it's really very beautiful! Your shot fades in color well, from gray and snowy at bottom to bright and blue at top, and everything is reflected cleanly in the water of the canal. Very nice and peaceful image.

Hallo John!
More depth nearly isn't thinkable. It's wonderfully effected by the rows of trees and all the different diagonals in the photo. This little alley between the trees nearly looks like a tunnel and the surrounding landscape really is a feast for the eyes. A walk - or a hike - there must be balm for the soul. Simply great!

De zonnige winterdagen die we vorige week hadden waren voor de fotograaf een prachtige periode om foto's te nemen. Dit is weer een mooie kenmerkende plaat van jou, een heel mooie moment opname van een wondermooi winters landschap in absoluut prachtig licht, perfect gepresenteerd. Je hebt je hier uitstekend geplaatst om die bomenrij er in te krijgen en een eindeloze diepte te creëeren. De blauw-witte kleuren zijn erg mooi en de foto straalt een bepaalde rust uit. Ook het spel van de takken tegen de blauwe lucht is een mooi spektakel. Kortom een schitterende compositie. Ik wens je nog een fijne avond en een prettige weekend hopelijk zonder regen.

I really enjoy landscapes with distinctive lines or shapes. The perspective here is wonderful with pin-sharp trees disappearing into a slightly misty BG. The small red signs just add a little bit extra. Beautifully thought out and managed image.

Extremely good repetition of the dark leafless trees which also add a nice graphic element. Good sharpness and superb use of diminishing linear perspective & vanishing point. The blue sky and white snow go well together. Tfs!

Your photos have such amazing perspective, which is one of my favorite principles of artwork. It appears in this image as if the trees really do vanish in the vanishing point. I also like the contrast of the warm tone of the trees, and the afternoon sun on the snow with the cool blue of the sky. Very nice, indeed. Thanks for sharing.

A very interesting but very good crop. Fantastic colours and of course the depth illusion the trees create is extraordinary. I like the fact that there are only a couple of shades in the shot.
