Photographer’s Note

inner court of the Sint-Pietersabdij (Abbey of Saint-Peter), one of the oldest momuments in Flanders

The original abbey was built in the 7th century by one Amandus of Ghent. Originally it lay just outside the city proper. From the 9th until the 11th century this is where the counts of Flanders were buried. It stopped being an abbey in 1794, to become an army garrison and later a prison. Now the impressive buildings belong to the city of Ghent and are a great place for cultural and historical exhibitions.

Benny, this is a great capture. The note is short but adequate and the composition of the shot with the differing light levels is just superb.

Hello Benny ,
A very fine piece of architecture . I like a lot the light and the stoned tonalities , here ( the bad weather ? ) . A very good framing , too .

I like a lot how you have composed the photo, the corner of the walls in the background adds a nice sense of depth, and for once what looks like a gloomy weather (or may be just shadows?) helps to bring out the textures.

Hoi Benny,

Mooie foto. Alleen jammer dat de foto een ietwat sombere atmosfeer oproept die het beeld van de 'donkere' middeleeuwen bevestigt.

Nog meegeven dat dit niet de Sint-Pietersabdij is maar de Sint-Baafsabdij.
