Photographer’s Note

Two young people out of the group “Klopperdansers” no not an couple, alone for these picture.

I hope that the most members this picture find better than the previous photograph.

I hope you like it.

About the group
De Donkse Klopperdans vzw' is a Flemish traditional folkdance group, founded in 1978. You can find us all over Europe as 'Ambassador of Flemish Art'. We enjoy our public with a various program of mostly typically Flemish dances. We live in Maldegem-Donk, near Bruges, Flanders, Belgium. Frequently, you can find us on the Europeade. That's an event in some European city, where several groups out of every region of Europe meet and dance a whole week long. It is the place to meet different cultures, arts, ... It's impossible to describe the atmosphere you find out there. On that festival, you can meet Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, German, French, Irish, Russian, Estonian, Bulgarian, ... groups. It 's worthwhile to join one of the Europeades to see the many differences in all cultures, but also to see how all the groups meet in dance, enthusiasm, and fun. We already enjoyed the Europeades in Horsens (DK 1993), Frankenberg (D 1994), Valencia (SP 1995), Turin (I 1996), Martigny (S 1997), Rennes (F 1998), Bayreuth (D 1999),Horsens (DK 2000) and Zamorra (SP 2001). In 2002, the Europeade visited our own Flanders in the city of Antwerp,last year it was Quimper in Bretagne (F )and in 2006, Zamora in Spain was the place to be. Besides the Europeade, we also did international performances in Wierden (NL), St-Pierre-Les-Elboefs (FR), Lampertheim (D), Ermont (FR) and lots of performances in our own Flemish neighborhood. Our group has about 120 members, spread out over several different age-classes. The child group is named 'Katootje', and was founded in 1980. The name of the adult group is 'De Donkse Klopperdans', this name has been derived from our dialect. 'Klopper' means 'wooden shoe', 'Klopperdansers' means 'dancers on wooden shoes'. As our name requests, some of the dances in our program are performed on wooden shoes. We also have a music group, without them it wouldn't be possible to be a good representative of Flemish dance art. In our latest provincial contest, we received the second highest category. A jury classified our group in the second highest category. They quoted choreography, dancing, music, ... So, that's a good indication to know what you can expect if you invite our group for some festival or other activity. The clothing we wear are traditional Flemish clothes. The male wear a dark grey suit, the female wear a white-dark red combination

Very nice smiling expression of the pair in this portrait shot, with red color :) I think the boy is in focus but the girl is slightly OOF. Perhaps f/16?

Nice to see they are happy to be photographed.

Mooi dubbelportret. Hij heeft van die geinige sproeten, zij kijkt guitig en lijkt bovendien op onze buurvrouw, maar is wel een stuk jonger en zij heeft volgens mij geen klompen.

Good evening John -

A very nice portrait for sure. I like the devious smile on the young girls face as well as her eye contact with the camera. As a couple they seem to be made for each other even though they are just members of a dance troop. The diffused lighting is perfect with no distracting shadows to worry about. I think this is a top notch portrait John - well done! Bravo!

very nice portrait. I am curious if they have typical local faces?
It is a bit pity that you cut so close -may be it would be better to see more of their traditional clothes?
Portrais are too difficult for me: people are moving and making faces, I prefer nature or architecture for that reason...
However I often regret that I don't try enough.

very good portrait, you captured a very good, nice moment at the right POV. I like the sense of depth in the photo, and it's also nice that the red details of their clothes enliven the image :) They are looking in different directions (one of them - at the photographer) which makes the photo dynamic and also a bit humorous - with a good mood, with a smile :)
