First a little something about my new SIGMA 70-300mm F4-5.6 DC MACRO lens. This budget lens has a macro function between 200 and 300 mm and I can wholeheartedly recommended as good value for money, or even better it exceeds the expectations one would have when looking at the price.

I got this lens as a christmas gift, and took the photo of this ice branch on the last day of 2008. It was an ice-cold afternoon and I guess the darker background is caused by the white ice standing out on the camera sensor? Or perhaps anyone else has an explanation. Anyway, I posted this because last winter I was also able to post some photos of ice crystals and i wanted to make the comparison with the new lens.

This winter, temperatures dropped in Belgium like I had never seen them drop before. Belgium usually has very moderate winters, with a lot of rain and occasionally a bit of snow, but this winter we saw the temperature drop to -19 and with temperatures during the day that didn't get any better than -8.
As such, this photo is my interpretation of "winter in belgium 2008/2009".
