Photographer’s Note
De-icing of an airplane of the Brussels Airlines, the former SABENA and SN Brussels Airlines, at the Brussels Airport in Belgium.
The accumulation of ice on airplane wings, because of inadequate ground deicing or ice accumulation in-flight, is one of aviation’s most insidious problems.
When there are freezing conditions and precipitation, it is critical that an aircraft be de-iced.
In conventional deicing, crews use heated glycol-based fluids to remove existing ice, then coat the airplane with ice suppressants to prevent new ice from forming.
The work is done by the groundhandler Flightcare.
Although weather in Belgium is never extreme, a de-icing team is prepared and ready for wintry temperatures, snow and ice.
Brussels Airport is equipped with a de-icing platform, which aircraft taxi through prior to take-off.

Hello Kris
Winter really has struck Europe this year, at least up north in Scandinavia the last few days have been a complete chaos.
This photo looks very interesting, as for me being an aircraft mechanic and former baggage handler this photo brings back memories.
Funfact: Did you know they can drive and stear these deicing trucks from up inside those telescopic arms?
The colours area great blend, and even though the rest of the plane is cut away I think adding just the tail is enough to make a good composition.
Thank you for sharing.

Hi Kris
Nice detail and well made compo and well cropped scene. The grey sky makes the blue cars and the red dots on the plane more special.
greetings Albrecht

Kris,
Beautiful composition of a scene at the airport. Capturing the tail end of the plane with the de-icing trucks is a smart choice. The red dots on the tail gives this picture some color.
