De Groot Begijnhof of Leuven (World Heritage) is an old district of the city, entirely restored and consisted of several convents as well as private dwellings (70 buildings approximately). It occupies a surface of 3 hectares and consists of ten paved streets, without motorized circulation and a very peaceful area.
One can walk there freely. A paradise for the photographers also!
The oldest buildings date from the 16th century. But the foundation of the beguinage would date already from 13th.

Le Grand Béguinage de Louvain (patrimoine mondial de l'Humanité) est un quartier ancien de la ville, entièrement restauré et constitué de plusieurs couvents ainsi que d'habitations privées (70 bâtiments environ).
Il occupe une superficie de 3 hectares et est constitué d'une dizaine de rues pavées, sans circulation motorisée et où règne un calme reposant. On peut s'y promener librement (à condition de respecter le calme de l'endroit et les habitations privées et de n'y circuler qu'à pied ou à vélo). Un paradis pour les photographes également!
Les bâtiments les plus anciens datent du 16ème siècle. Mais la fondation du béguinage daterait déjà du 13ème.
