Photographer’s Note

Large forests can be found on the borders of the park, mostly coniferous and deciduous forests with few species such as Scots pine, common oak and silver birch. Some parts are monotonous Corsican pine forests. Mostly there are no shrubs to be found, and where there are any, they are often exotic species. In the field layer purple moor grass is predominant. In some places problems occur with competitive exotic species such as the black (American) cherry and the rhododendron. The policy plan strifes towards a structured forest, and to obtain this, measures are taken such as removing black cherry and rhododendron in favour of indigenous species. Another measure is thinning out the forest which opens up the forest canopy and promotes the spontaneous regeneration of the forest. To obtain a greater variety, mostly coniferous wood is taken out. The share of dead wood is also increased to obtain a greater natural value in the forests. Open areas are created in the forests in order to promote a greater biodiversity in the forests, open areas are created.

These measures should lead to a beautiful, structured forest, a rich under story and field layer, with open and more closed parts alternating, with old and young trees mixed.

Yes Another winter shot. There was snow in Kalmthout. Not so much but enough for me to made some atmosphere shots. The lighjt was absolute bad. This was a handheld shot and I hope you like it.

Photo très réaliste des bois tels que je les connais en cette saison "humide".La brume, la neige, la boue et les flaques d'eau...Bien fait!

Bonjour Jaap,
une ambiance plus boueuse pour cette photo, cela montre que dans les bois, il ne fait pas toujours facile de se balader.
La photo retranscrit bien le mais temps que nous avons depuis quelques jours, mais qui ne t'a pas empêché d'obtenir de belles lumières.

Sometimes the light just is not our favor but you managed to make the most of a bleak situaion. To my eyes, two things really stand out in your photo: the reflections of the trees in the puddle and the strange horizontal limbs on the trees. The lower POV nicely detracts the attention from the very bland-looking sky. Nice work! Looks like you got your boots wet that day. ;-)

Hallo Jaap,
De weinig sneeuw in combinatie met de plassen in de voorgrond die dan op zicht voor een goede weerspiegeling zorgen, de dreef zorgt dan voor de perfecte diepte, zeker met de sparrebomen links en rechts. Atmosfeer heeft men onmiddellijk door de kleur contrasten, de focus zit tamelijk aan de voorzijde.

c'est une très belle photo de sous-bois avec une lumière excellente. La perspective est accentué par ce reflet du ciel dans l'eau et ces arbres allongés.

Hi Jaap, Thanks to go to the deep of the woods along the tough road to get this picture. I can image that to drive or to walk along the road is not an easy job. Good capture of the mist, the perspective view. Well done.

de boswachter van de Kalmthoutse Heide zou men je nog kunnen noemen... Goed weergegeven beeld hoe het er op vele plaatsen nu bij ligt, nat dus. Maar met een paar goede laarzen komt men overal door.

Botten aan !
Je voelt hier letterlijk het gure kille vochtig ijsweer, dit heeft modder aan de botten en die blijven voorzekers buiten thuisgekomen. Een geweldig nauwkeurige juiste indruk van deze omgeving met dit weer met een prachtige reflectie in de plassen als surplus, prachtig Jaap !

The low POV has allowed you to capture the reflections in the puddle; they give a wonderful added dimension to the image. The log floating in the puddle actually looks as if it is floating on air. A very cold, wet capture.

Dag Jaap, het eerste waar ik aan dacht was de slag om de Ardennen. Dit doet me werkelijk hieraan denken; sneeuw, modder, mistroostig en mysterieus landschap. Alleen nog een tank en een paar soldaten en het zou een schitterende affiche zijn voor een oorlogsfilm. Nu, dat is mijn persoonlijk gevoel hierover. Hij is echt heel goed genomen en brengt wat teweeg.

This one goes well with the "white world" you posted a few days ago... And this for the forest part of this wild area.

Lovely POV that includes the reflection and the path into the distant woods. Beautiful colors and sharp details that makes me feel I have been there.
