Photographer’s Note
Origins of the dune range
The whole dune range starts in Halsteren (Holland) and stretches into the Kalmthoutse Heide in Flanders over a total of 25 kilometres. In Holland it is also called Brabantse Wal (Brabant Wall) but it is often forgotten that part of this ‘geological wonder’ lies in Flanders.
It is located on the border of the lower sea clay area of Zeeland and the higher sandy grounds of the Kempen.
The steering forces behind the origin of the Brabantse Wal are dual. Firstly the tilting movements of the Belgian-Dutch soil play an important role. The massif of Brabant was lifted and parts of Noord-Brabant and Midden-Nederland dropped. This is the reason why south of Bergen op Zoom sediment from the Ice Age can be found close to the surface. This sediment of clay and sand is the foundation for the Brabantse Wal. Near Ossendrecht the layer is about 30-40 metres thick. The clay banks that originated this way are called Kempisch Klei. And because of the presence of this clay, the Northern course of the river Scheldt could not touch the Brabantse Wal, and the actual steep slopes came into existence. During the last Ice Age the Brabantse Wal was covered with wind-borne sand deposit, which gave it its actual shape.
here you can find this good note.
This weekend I made the first photo's with my new canon 350d and my camron 17-35 lens. I must say, I have to learn to work with the new camera. I see the compositions good but now I must learn to work with the f-stops of the camera. The tamron lens was a very good choice. I hope you like my first shot. It has not the real carper size, but the path was to nice to cut it.

The photo is very simple, but the sky is very nice, and the composition is good, with the tree in the backround. This composition is not academic, because the horizon line is at half frame, but ground and sky have amazing colours.

Hi Jaap,
I prefer not change and mantain like a afficionate of a car or something that allways works good that studying new adapations to cameras. Sincereally I only worked by many years with my Branch in Cameras and if ine day I change is also for the same and with a SLR to know both not ways. For a first try and intention is excelent your point of view and autumnal composition. Fine enquadrement, colors and a blur that is a gift from camera and you ;-)))
Have a nice week and work. I will go directly now to your Portfolio to choose one that is Carper working.
Best to you.

Ahah a new toy Jaap? :P i also struggled in the first days... everything looked so good in the viewfinder but then in the PC i didn't liked the result... now i feel much happier :) but even so, i think you add a better start than me.. this looks fine, maybe a little outfocus. as for me the square format is not very apealing also (personal opinion)
Have a great time with the canon and keep surprising us with those beautifull shots of you.

Good shot Jeppe,
Congradulation on your new "toy".
I like the colors and how the tracks take us right into the frame. Very interesting scene and thank you for the note.

Hi Jaap !
Very nice composition ! The colors are fantastics even with this cloudy sky !
The landscape make me think of the Fagnes area in Belgium near Spa and Eupen...
Congratulations,

Dag Jaap,

Prettige week toegewenst,

Hi Jaap, congratulations to your new camera. This is a nice shot to show the contrasts of the autumn colors under the heavy and cloudy sky. A very well taken picture with good sharpness and depth.

Proficiat voor uw nieuwe camera toestel, Jaap! Indeed, you will have to learn a lot with this one. I have it since may and I still learn some functions...
Your composition is good and I like the colors. Goed gedaan!

Congratulations on the new camera, Jaap. Knowing you as the perfectionist and dedicated photographer that you are, it will not take you long to master it. Apart from maybe a minor lack of sharpness, this is a pleasant first result with this showing of the Dutch landscape dipped into the autumnal color palette. Very nice.

Bonsoir Jaap,

Regards.

Hi jaap
I like the diminishing linear perspective afforded by the road. The cloudy day has allowed maaximum shadow detail with the diffuse lighting. Perhaps a slight ccw rotation? Good work.

Daj Jaap,
When I saw the photo and began to read the note I was wondering about the title, coming to the end of the note I got the clue, congratulations Jaap for joining our big 350D family !
Yes learning is necessary, not photography obviously as you show us here a nice warm/cold opposition and a nice curvy perspective leading to the dead tree, but rather PP as photos will require more PP than you were used too with your previous camera. Here an extra bit of sharpness would be a good idea, but not too much as applying too much sharpness on such a view with many plants will bring a quick degradation of the photo quality.
Happy learning Jaap, have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

well composed with the path and the dead tree on the right, maybe you can have more sharpness for your shot.

Dag Jaap,

Hi Jaap,
Well composed and very pleasing colours. The roadway leads the eye nicely into the frame. The clouds have excellent texture and enhance. I might have cropped a little of field on the right side. Overall, a good result for your new camera.

The lens sure seems to be a good choice Japp. The pov and inclusion of a large part of the foreground works well in the compo. The tracks invites for further study and lead us to the background. Overall good sharpness and details. Very fine test with the new equipement.

Hi Jaap

Hi Jaap, once more it's me.
This one is very interesting with the red grass and the dying tree, also with the dramatic sky. Wonderful.
Gratulations to you new camera, I hope you are so satisfied with it as I am. Have a lot of fun with it, bye

The square aspect ratio suits this one. The composition is strong and effective, I like the way the wheel tracks lead the eye in.
The saturation in the brown grass and the heavy overcast nature of the sky kind-of disagree with each other a bit - by any chance have you increased the saturation in PP?
