Photographer’s Note
We were wandering around the old city center or Grote Markt in Antwerp when this band came into the square and began to play. This is not the best composition but I like the fact that I captured the town hall (Stadhuis) and the Brabo Fountain in this shot. The Grote Markt is a vast, pedestrianised triangular market square (ironic, no?) seemingly always busy and filled with people.
The Stadhuis was designed by Cornelius Floris De Vriendt and completed in 1565. It was unusual for it’s time because rather then the standard Gothic architecture prevalent at the time of its construction, the town hall’s façade is a combination of Flemish and Italian styles. (Lonely Planet)
