The Royal Greenhouses of Laeken (in Dutch: Koninklijke Serres van Laken, in French: Serres Royales de Laeken), are a vast complex of monumental heated greenhouses in the park of the Royal Castle of Laeken in Brussels and one of the major tourist attractions of the city. The complex was commissioned by King Leopold II of Belgium and designed by Alphonse Balat. Built between 1874 and 1895, the complex was finished with the completion of the so-called 'Iron Church', a domed greenhouse that would originally serve as the royal chapel. The total floor surface of this immense complex is 2.5 hectares (270,000 square feet). 800,000 liters (over 200,000 US gallons) of fuel oil are needed each year to heat the buildings.
The complex can only be visited in April-May during a two-week period. That is when most flowers are in full bloom.

You perfectly found a beautiful part of Royal Greenhouse. Colorful flower in green and pathway makes your frame richest one with sitting table and chairs there. Congratulations, have a nice week.

Hi Oliver,
A very lovely shot with all the elements nicely positioned and I would love to sit there amidst the fragrance filled atmosphere. The slight blue tint calms the nerve and is very soothing to look at. Your shot have brought out the main essence of this place. Well done!!

Bonjour, Olivier. Au prix où est le mazout, je suis heureux de savoir que nous payons en partie le chauffage des serres de Laeken. 800 000 litres par an, ce n'est pas mal. Mais ne boudons pas notre plaisir, cela nous permet au moins de faire de belles photos ;o). Ton image rend bien le côté luxuriant de la végétation - le chauffage a bien fait son effet - et la variété de couleurs présentes au niveau des fleurs. Le sentier nous emmène bien dans l'iamge et frôle la petite terrasse où le guéridon et les chaises apportent un contraste intéressant.
