Although it is probable a little disrespectful to call this a side garden, it was & compared to the back garden this was a mere flower bed.
The name Schonbrunn means ("beautiful well") & in 1696 construction began on the middle part of the palace. However soon after this parts completion it was redesigned on the orders of Maria Theresa of Austria, who wished the architecture & gardens to be in the stile of the Rococo era.
Schönbrunn Palace was a vigorous centre of Austria's empire and the imperial family, and stayed their summer residence until the more-or-less "abdication" of Charles I of Austria, in 1918.
In the 19th century one name is closely connected with Schönbrunn's, Emperor Franz Josef I of Austria. He was born there, spent the majority of his life there and died there on November 21, 1916 in his sleeping room.

A classical...but always lovely view!!! Nice POV with the gardens and the castle!
gunbud (34066) 2008-09-29 18:58
The silver blue sky compliments the the beautiful yellow palace graciously while the lush green gardens make an ideal lead in that provides great depth to this fine image.
Clarity, colors and sharpness are right on the money.

I like the point of view and the resulting composition!
Fine leading lines take my eyes right to the majestic architecture, which is captured with sharp fine details...
Interesting flower arrangements!

Hi Wilson, friend,
your point of view has the big capacities: nice panoramic view. In any case wonderful corner of Vienna. You missed the sun for better colors, but your Canon is your big friend. Me too.
Budapestman (82620) 2008-09-30 5:21
Superb photo from this beautiful palace. The optic angle distinguished, the ornate forms of the garden prevail nicely. The slightly angry sky provides romantic mood to the picture. Beautiful and spectacular photo. Have a nice day
jemaflor (83691) 2008-09-30 11:28
Interesting perspective, nice castle with these gardens, good sharpness and colours for grass and flowers.
stego (24028) 2008-09-30 11:43
I like very much this view over that little flower bed of that world famous little cottage. :-)
You took god profit of the elevated PoV, producing an interesting compo and a view that it isn't so usual to see.
The light is dull, but of course that is not your fault, but I am glad you managed to make the sky interesting.

Olá Wilson, titanium:)
Is a beautiul postcard of this place. Good colors, definition and contrast.
danyy (0) 2008-09-30 22:57
danos (85771) 2008-09-30 23:05
Good morning Wilson,

rodgerg (55767) 2008-10-01 4:13
The prospect to this famous palace is here superb: the garden with nice flowers, the building and the mounatins in the BG!
A famous and very nice place, a very beautiful image. Good photowork.
jlbrthnn (76037) 2008-10-01 4:44
The point of view is learnedly selected, to show these splendid gardens, but also architecture. Beautiful colors in spite of a not very luminous sky. Cheer.
Have a nice day
robob (3646) 2008-10-01 8:10
JCG (35129) 2008-10-01 8:59
An interesting shifted visual angle which gives a good depth to the image I find. This castle is superb and is quite representative of this splendid city which I will like to know. A park which seems very pleasant in addition. Pretty composition, thank you Wilson.
With all my friendships and a very good evening,
Nicou (120376) 2008-10-01 9:26

siolaw (38274) 2008-10-01 21:13
A well chosen POV, slightly on the side to give a different perspective.
The weather was not the most sunny, but you got nice colors, specially on all these flowers of this beautiful 'side garden'!
John_F_Kennedy (42062) 2008-10-02 0:28
Great shot, nice angle with the great view to the agrden. Sharp, colours and details are excellent. Well done.
jhm (138214) 2008-10-02 2:23
Splendid angle choice, we see splendid the garden in foreground.
Also the "Schonbrunn means" building in background, beautiful place for a nice stroll.
Nice composition and good presentation too.
Very well done, TFS.
Tue (27696) 2008-10-02 14:18
I find the POV you chose really good here, a little higher than the garden and with the famous palace well placed a little left of the centre. From this POV the shapes and decorations of the beautiful garden are perfectly visible. Good photo work, thanks for sharing!
emjleclercq (15780) 2008-10-02 21:13
Nice perspective of the place. I did not know the gardens, interesting too but in my opinion with to much alleys compared to the garden itself.
All the best,
Jean-Luc (5488) 2008-10-03 3:17
UnTrained (0) 2008-10-03 12:11
I like this overview from that POV, offers a lot, even in that less light with no real shadows. The open lines of the flower parts really invite me. I think I see some strange less sharpness in the middle of the castle, just like a result from a cloud or a stitch.
Lieben Gruss, Ulf
UlfE (14641) 2008-10-03 21:45
Wonderful view from Schonbrunn. This side view is a bit unusal and I would not have guessed that it was Schonbrunn even if I have been there several times. I really like you high POV and the composition is perfect. TFS and have a nice weekend!
xavshot (69835) 2008-10-03 23:06
anducina (8407) 2008-10-04 2:00
It seems that everybody managed to photograph Schonbrun from more interesting POV than me ! Superb geometrical park, beautiful combination of colors and shapes.
leo61 (0) 2008-10-04 23:26
Good shot from this famous place.I like your high POV here and the non symetry. The image looks a bit pale but it was the weather`s fault.
COSTANTINO (54419) 2008-10-06 10:31
I like this landscapr because it evokes a sense of peacefulness...

Do you know where I have been on 6th October 2007? In Vienna!! It was only a one-day-visit (you know, because you commented all of my photos from here), so we didn't have time for the Schönnbrun Palace. I suppose it's only worth to visit if you have a whole day for it or more.. ((:
Nice photo of this "back garden", I like the POV and the various colours. The composition is also excellent!
pboehringer (770) 2008-10-07 6:13
the famous Schoenbrunn. Nice composition with teh symmetrical element and yet slight off center placement to avoid the fixed equality on each side.
tabora (0) 2008-10-08 13:08
JorgeCK (2620) 2008-10-10 14:43
Excellent composition and POV, The details are incrediably sharp. the DOF is superb and the colors of the gardens are beautiful.
pierrefonds (56436) 2008-10-12 5:12
The point leads our eyes through the garden toward the Schonbrunn castle which is giving depth to the photo. The tree are nicely framing the garden. The picture is clear and sharp. The colors are enhanced by the good light.
Angelillo (9372) 2008-10-13 14:30
It's a great sight of the "gardens" and the palace. I think your POV emphasize very well the luxury, the big spaces, the ordered geometry of the baroque. I like your perspective!
axiotea (21649) 2008-10-16 6:51
The gardens are very well maintained and just look splendid!
They created a nice visual impact and lead nicely the eye to the palace. I like to see the hills in distance....
Floydian (30970) 2008-10-19 7:24
What i like here is your pov which shows a great view over the whole area. The depth that is created by that pov is really good and gives the picture a great boost...well done.
JoNoCarmo (291) 2009-02-16 1:38
Good composition and nice flowers colours,
it would be a bit better if you had framed the flowers-bed in foreground. but its good anyhow. Rgds - JCarmo
