Photographer's Note

This was shot in Westendorf, in the Austrian Tyrol, during a ski holiday there. I thought the Alpine houses in the Tyrol were beautiful. They are constructed mainly of wood (eco friendly), and decorated beautifully in many cases. Balconies on the upper floors are typical. The roofs and angled to prevent buildup of excessive snow. The roofs also overlap the building, I guess to ensure the snow falls at least a few feet from the building. In some cases, cattle were housed in the basement or ground floor, and provided a form of heating in winter (possibly a little smelly though!)
