Photographer's Note

Lake Pillersee is located in the homonymous Pillersee valley in the municipality of St. Ulrich am Pillersee. This lake ows its origins to a rock avalanche occurred about 15,000 years ago. Its name derives from the term “pillern”, which in Austrian dialect defines water booming in spring or in case of storm. The lake is fed by mountain streams, rising in the Loferer Steinberge mountain chain and the Kitzbühel Alps. The only outlet of the lake is the Haselbach river, emptying into the Saalach river in Lofer.
