(Comment to the title) If you 50 and living in Scandinavia (or elsewhere on earth) you must remember ABBA and their great music – a photo for the theme.
The real skilled (professional) skiers often prefer to go “off piste” in order to get natural and fresh snow under the skies. I shot this slalom runner while sitting in a lift and actually do I have him as a series – but this shot will do – I like the race between snowball and man.
I tried to spot his technique but there’s still a long way to run for me ;-)

Hej Jeppe !! Sjovt billede.Læg mærke til sneen til højre det kunne blive til en stor snebold.

I realy like the shot, the speed, the moment of taken it. Very nice. You did a good job here. well done.
Josh69 (1437) 2004-02-28 4:17
Nice shot, and well exposed as you can still see the detail in the snow.

Great curves and such great sense of movement. I like the diagnol lines on the right of the photo. I like how the curves contrast with those sharp lines. As for the title, wonderful, I just saw Mamma Mia a few days ago in San Francisco, and I remember when Abba won the Eurovision contest I was about 6 years old.

The structure of snow, the diagonal compo, the race between them - very well captured, Jeppe.

Good composition. You have chosen the right POV as well. The curves are very engaging and the other lines are sharp. Great work.

Great shot Jeppe. A classical motive that you was able to catch from a lift. Impressive. Indeed a very good "action" pix

Great shot. Taking this pic from the lift means you had to do fast and your really managed to catch something special: the skier OK, but also the nice pattern in the snow and this rolling snowball is so great.

This one is great, Jeppe. Wonderful aerial view of the skier and the curves and lines, and the guy is very well placed inside your frame. And I love the title - being in my mid-30s now, listening to ABBA songs in the 70s and 80s is among my early "conscious" pop music memories.

I like this slalom route, and the all white frame works very good. A very very interesting angle, and very detailed snow. I wish we could see the skier better, but still, a very nice shot, Jeppe.

Nice shot Jeppe, and well exposed as you can still see the detail in the snow. Nice detail of the forground these little ball snow. Well done.

A classic motive but the snowball is an extra I haven´t seen before. The snowball also made it neccessary to keep the man and his track in one corner and I think that is good for the composition.

Bien vu le fait d'avoir laissé de la place pour donner plus de champ au skieur.
L'image de part sa présentation met bien le sujet en valeur.
Bien vu et bien composé Jeppe

The movement of the skier in this photo and the wave in the snow which it draws is magnificent. The parallel with the ball of snow adds to the impact.
For the pleasure, I tempted a ws to reduce the visible pixels on my screen.

The play between the straight and the curvy line is great and the framing is _perfect_. Some purple/red noise in the snow is a bit disturbing, but the photo is still easily a dark green one. (Maybe you could desaturate the red and the magenta channel somewhat)
hojper (2832) 2004-03-03 16:59
It is so lovely and sharp, Jeppe, and the detail with the rolling snowball is fantastic. I was wondering how it would look in b&w or cropped differently, but I left it there. I wouldn't touch anything. A pearl.

Very nice composition,The trace behind the man is the heart of the photo I think. And also having the man on the white snow is a beautiful contrast. Very well done!
roshangar (1682) 2004-03-14 15:46
Very nice composition,he moved lik a snake!
Intruder (3099) 2004-03-21 6:06

I do like the trail that he has made, I have seen this on the telly but never in a photo, very good capture indeed and I was wondering where you took the shot fom?
really nice picture
dsidwell (9783) 2004-04-12 9:02
Suberp skiiing action, Jeppe! The composition is just right to show both skier and the terrain in which he is skiing. NIcely seen!
jean-marie (3088) 2004-08-05 2:07
Génial ! La courbe dessinée par le skieur s'oppose à la ligne droite laissée par la boule de neige. Très graphique.

I find it almost unbelievable that you got such a great shot from a moving skilift! Very well done! Did the snowball win this race? :) I like the pattern in the snow and the snow that sprays up from his skies the best of all. Great picture. :)

rajhema (1873) 2005-08-02 15:30
BEautiful capture Jeppe. And the comments are appropriate. You must be sitting high up when you took this picture. Very good one.
