This is a view of the hoensalzburg taken from Dom square. I did not have a tripod with me so I had to improvise by propping the camera on post to make it stable.
Hohensalzburg Castle (German: Festung Hohensalzburg, literally "High Salzburg Fortress") sits atop the Festungsberg, a small hill in the Austrian city of Salzburg. Erected at the behest of the Prince-Archbishops of Salzburg with a length of 250 m (820 ft) and a width of 150 m (490 ft), it is one of the largest medieval castles in Europe.(Wiki)

A nicely composed blue hour comprising a number of different and interesting elements. I like the contrasts in light and tone, whilst the people in the lower part of the image bring the scene to life.

This is a fine composition taking in the castle, the square and some local people dressed well on a cold evening. The large globe picks up the light from the surroundings very well and provides an interesting object for the foreground. There seems to be somebody standing on it. How on earth did he get there?

HI Asa,a great memory of the austrian winter.A magnificent perspective to take all these beauties under the moon, great exposure of the blue hour and excellent detail on the castle and on the gold big ball,i like it! Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

The distance between the square and the catsle is giving depth to the composition. Using an ISO of 1600, a slow shutter speed and a support is showing the details and the colors of the houses and of the castle. Well done, have a nice day.

Like this creative capture with the full moon up in the sky and the bright sphere on which I can see a person or it s just a decor?
Nice winter ambiance given by the people warmly dressed
Well done, regards

Kia ora Asa (greetings from New Zealand),
Niely composed photo taken in a difficult light. Always very difficult to hold the cmera completely steady, even when popped o something solid. Well done. Cheers, Neil

bella interpretazione di questa ora blu, c'è una splendida atmosfera invernale, giusta per il luogo.
Bella composizione, con il castello che domina la bella piazza e il moderno monumento contrasta con le altre architetture.

Hi dear Asa, how are you?
High ISO and slow shutter speed setting makes very impresive image indeed. Intentional under exposure is the best choice and reflect with your high inspiration.
All the best and have a good start of a new week!

Very nice blue hour shot, the fortress towering over the city is really impressive, well captured

A nightshot well managed, well composed with the Fg with the golden circle and the beautiful castle on the hill, interesting vertical photo.

Bonjour, cher Asa,
Bravo pour cette présentation très originale sachant mêler avec talent l'avant-plan et l'arrière-plan (particulièrement impressionnant).

I critiqued this yesterday, but for some reason it did not record!
The people in the f/g inform us of the conditions but, by contrast, the artificial lights and their amber reflections on the metal ball suggest a sense of warmth. They provide lots of human interest before the climb to the very imposing, austere castle, given character by its lofty position, its protective towers and its small, secretive windows.
You have collected so many details really well, especially since you had no tripod.
Is the guy on the metal ball trying to get a better view of the castle?
My warm regards,
ourania (27344) 2014-08-04 2:08
in spite of the lighting challenge, you managed to give us a thorough idea of the setting and its atmosphere and your composition is very interesting. People, buildings, golden globe and moon are wonderfully placed in the frame, there's a great distribution of interest and the whole is nicely knit. You achieved very good depth and clarity, the colours are natural and create a pleasant evening atmosphere. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,

I know this spot! I was here just a few days ago. Strange to see piles of snow but in late December no surprise there really. At first I thought some tourist was crazy enough to climb atop the golden globe for a photo but it is actually part of the sculpture. Tfs!

I have visited Salzburg and the castle and that classic funicuar looks familiar. But what is that sphere and a man on top of it?
Very special detail on a view which is quite impressive even without it.

you have managed to include many interesting details in this well exposed and nicely presented night scene.
There is a nice depth and clarity despite the lack of a tripod, well done for improvising.

a beautiful blue hour photo
the atmosphere is very good
npecanhuk (61688) 2014-08-08 4:22
An interesting and attractive picture!
Very difficult light and, because of that, it's a bit grainy! However, other photo qualities are there to be appreciated: soft colors, vertical format, chosen pov and composition!
alvaraalto (5939) 2014-08-09 7:41
Good composition with the moon and the huge globe on the ground. The yellow lights in the blue atmosphere like a painting of Magritte.
batalay (34823) 2014-08-10 20:38
When I see something I've seen before, I remember Werner Heisenberg's words, "Never underestimate how much pleasers it gives a man to see what he already knows." Indeed, you captured a beautiful blue hour photo of the Hoensalzburg. The gilded sphere creates a counterpoint to the Archbishop's Palace, and I don't think it was there when I visited in 1986.
mirosu (12684) 2014-08-14 3:10
Excellent view up to beautiful large castle. Nicely arranged photo. All in very nice light.
Very well done.

Salzburg city one of the cutest I've seen so far. I really like this picture of winter. Night blue sky at is great. I have to see this city in the winter.
delpeoples (52737) 2014-08-26 5:12
You did a great job improvising without a tripod. The Blue Hour has been captured beautifully, with superb tones and good focus on the moon. Additionally, you have some very compelling subjects, the golden dome and the ancient castle on top of the hill. The people add dynamism. Well done.
COSTANTINO (52002) 2014-09-04 7:25
Hello dear friend
impressive and attractive shot
this large globe picks up the light
from the surroundings very well
it is a winter atmosphere with people
everybody interested in somthing
else and dressed with heavy dresses
eldancer1 (25690) 2014-09-08 10:10
You did a wonderful job capturing this scene without a tripod. It's hard to balance the lighting and stop the people from blurring. Well done, tfs.
macjake (53090) 2014-09-17 3:45
I know the photo isn't the sharpest because of the very slow shutter, but we've all been here in that regard!
I had to pick this one out of your gallery simply because of the large gold ball with the Man stading on top of it - what the heck is that!
Its almost as if it doesn't belong in the scene, and they are lost lol
very interesting and weird! glad you captured it.
