Photographer’s Note

On top of Dobratsch mountain (2.166m altitude) there are two churches, the Slovenian church and the German church. Wikipedia says, that they are the highest situated churches in Europe.

Since centuries Carinthia is bilingual, we have a german (or something similar :D) speaking majority and a slovenian speaking minority. For me these two churches are somehow a symbol for this coexistence, which enriches cultural life here in Carinthia.

Here you see the German church, which was built by peasants of the villages down in the valley. It was inaugurated on august, 15th, 1693, more than 300 years ago. The pic was taken in the early morning.

It is amazing above the clouds like that on the mountain, like something from a dream. I love the graded colour of the sky. Good off centre composition of the silhouetted church. Are those stars in the sky?

the photo looks great - the colours, the framing, the star, the POV. And also the fact of the bilingual is very interesting, I didn't know, I should make a short trip to the mountains :)

What a beautiful composition! The silhouette is fantastic and we can see the clouds lower than the church - amazing!
It is probably Venus on the sky, I suppose?

Such a calm.. such a stars.. Under the sheltering sky I would say.. you have magic in your hands.. you are flying above the clouds, you show us countless colours of rainbow early in the morning, late in the afternoon.. jumping at the tops, looking down to neverending space..

Hi, Christian -

Well, I like this one better than the Slovenian; the lighting is much more dramatic, and the church silhouette dominates the scene without being overbearing about it.

The first one was nice, too - but this is really nice!

Beautiful colourful sky. Nice composition Christian. I like the silhouette of the church and the fog under. I can see two stars, or they are burned pixels ... i preffer stars.
